Christopher Eccleston Talks THOR And HEROES REBORN Return Possibilities

Most famously known as The Ninth Doctor on Doctor Who, actor Christopher Eccleston also starred in Marvel Studios' Thor: The Dark World and had a brief stint on NBC's superhero drama, Heroes.

Christopher Eccleston's filmography is filled with a pretty impressive amount sci-fi and superhero assignments.  There's Doctor Who, Heroes, Thor: The Dark WorldG.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra and a host of other projects.  Recently, MTV caught with Eccleston and asked him about possibily returning to the role of Malekith the Accurrsed for another Marvel Studios adventure and/or returning to the role of Claude Rains on NBC's upcoming, Heroes Reborn.  Said The Ninth Doctor on returning to Heroes, "Of course, yeah, I had a great time on the show!  Yeah. I’d always be interested. That was a great character. I love that guy."  However, Eccleston was not as enthusiastic about the possibility of suiting up one more time as the dark elf, Malektih.  "Eh, the makeup was a little, I don’t think I’d like to revisit six hours of makeup every day.  And I think Malekith has served his time. The way of the Marvel films, the Thor films, they have a new villain every time." Yet Eccleston does leave the door open, just a tiny bit. "I do think there was more to be said and done with [Malekith]."

If we're being frank, Malekith was a pretty weak villain, one of the least developed within all of the Marvel films. I actually found Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje's Algrim/Kurse to be much more interesting as an on-screen foil for Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston. Still, given the display of powers by Malekith during the film's climax, it's probably not entirely out of the realm of possibility that someone like Thanos could rebuild/resuscitate Malekith. On the Hereoes Reborn front, Eccleston's character was one of the highlights of the show during a time when the show was at its best. He'd be welcome return to the franchise.

Thor 3 should have Thor face 'Etrigan the Demon'.

I thought he was a pretty weak villain, but if they had made the film longer, they could have made him more interesting.

Wasted villain. He sucked, plain and simple. At least he gave Thor a good fight and made for some interesting action sequences though.

I hope they somehow bring this villain back, he needs to be done justice. I cant believe how they didn't even try to make him interesting in Thor 2.

I hope Malekith isn't dead, he needs to come back and be given more screen time and development. Marvel should have left those intern scenes out and increased the run time for The Dark World, so that they could add more scenes for Malekith.

I liked him as a villain, though more back-story would have been great...think Marvel cut too much for a shorter run-time, too bad...if anything, the Thor movies should be more like the LOTRs movies...but the mighty dollar probably won't allow that...shorter movies, more run-times per day, kinda sad...

This is exactly why Jane needs to die in AOU.

Definitely underused, but I still liked him despite his scarce use. He doesn't need to return either. There's much more we could still cover...

Yeah, hope the GotG makes it possible for Thor to be away from Earth completely...plenty of worlds we haven't seen yet...I know there's a 'hot' one I'd specially like to see...

"And I think Malekith has served his time." You got that right buddy, you may be a great actor, but [frick] malekith, one of the worst villains ive seen in a comic book movie. Zero Motivation, good riddance to that character.

and i don't blame eccelston or even alan taylor for him sucking so much, i blame marvel studios for cutting a bunch of things out of the movie.

I can imagine what he feels. Malekith is good character and Chris is great actor. I liked Thor 2 a lot, but the problem was it was CUTTED TOO SHORT.
This caliber cast deserves more... look Iron man 3, they really builded up KILLIAN better and gave him lot of time on screen. Action scenes wont just do it alone + that is just CGI and stunts.
It pisses me off, because Eccelston talked about that there was suppose to be more backround story for Malekith and they planned to show flashbacks more etc.

Just 20+ minutes more for the movie and it would have been story. But Malekith is lucky to be alive for seguels ;)

Don't care if he comes back. Bring on the Enchantress and the Executioner.

If they leave the Earth out of it. It will give more time to develop villains like Malekith. Totally underused character that could've been great.

Great actor MAJORLY underused and pushed aside for Loki...

MCU villains (Strongest-weakest)

1- Loki

2- Winter Soldier

3- Alexander Pierce

4- Abomination

5- Red Skull

6- Iron Monger

7- Aldrich Killian (Served as a good villain and decent Justin Hammer replacment)

8- Malekieth

9- Whiplash

10- Justin Hammer (Another AMAZING actor, misused)

Lets hope Ronan the accuser and Ultron impress! AlsoI didn't include villains like Batroc because they were small cameos... even thoughI loved St.Pierre at Batroc!

Deth - That's true, the problem with Malekith is that Marvel portrayed him as a two dimensional villain. Now that I think about it, they really did mess up on Malekith and butchered him quite a bit.

Lol, why do all actors in these films whine about the make-up?! I would lose my sh** just knowing I would look bad a**! Is it really that traumatizing?

Jennifer Laurence (Mystique make-up)
Alan Cummings (Nightcrawler make-up)
Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the galaxy armor)

Etc... I just don't get it.
