Conceptual artist Peter Popken (Monuments Men) has updated his website with some fantastic pieces of concept art he created for Marvel's sequel, Thor: The Dark World. Check them out.

Concept artist Peter Popken has designed concept art for many feature films like Monuments Men, Cloud Atlas, Wrath of the Titans, Hugo and of course, Alan Taylor's 2013 film Thor: The Dark World. Below, you can find six pieces of concept art from Marvel's sequel to Thor.  I especially like the bottom three depicting London being torn to pieces during the climactic battle scene involving Malekith the Accursed (Christopher Eccleston) and his army of Dark Elves.

Concept Art by Peter Popken
Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

THOR: THE DARK WORLD was directed by Alan Taylor ("Game of Thrones") and will be coming to DVD soon. Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Rene Russo, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Zachary Levi, Jaimie Alexander, Ray Stevenson, Kat Dennings, Christopher Eccleston, and Idris Elba.

Still a better Superman story than Man of Steel.

I kid I kid.

As low as this movie is on the MCU ladder, it's still an entertaining movie. Higher hopes for Ragnarok though. Could be so much better.

Thor should just be laying waste to everything. Slowly taking minimal damage over a long stretch of time until he says he is tired and weak. Then he decides he isn't tired and his health bar recharges and he does a special move to beat the Big Bad guy.

Seriously Hollywood. Don't try to add drama or make anything stand with Thor. That nerfs him.

Just make one live action video game to please the man-children of the world.

But seriously, has anyone considered the timing of Ragnarok?

This movie is during the civil war right? Wasn't the Thor clone called "Ragnarok"?

I think it's clear that the Hydra's target list from TWS will play for Civil War. I wonder if Thor's blood from avengers will be used to clone Thor or if it is just the Ragnarok arc. Maybe both?

This movie wasn't as bad as many of you claim it to be...that being said, it still kinda sucked. Still way better than anything on the upcoming wb/dc slate will be though!

this film could have been much better but it was still fun to watch. they just needed to improve on malekeith and the film would be 2 times better.

i hate how most of the time i look at the concept art for these marvel films and think they should have used that design instead. there are some awesome concept art for malekeith, kurse, Chitauri and the nova corps that where better than the actual thing they gave us.

The concept art is amazing. Overall I enjoyed the film but had a few problems with it. I hope MS realizes by now that Darcy and his "intern" are not necessary in Ragnarok.

I personally really liked Thor:The Dark World, the good definitely outweighed the bad.Thor:Ragnarok should blow the previous Thor movies out of the water.

Movie was subpar at best; just as bland and forgettable as the first Thor.

they need to find a director like the russos, gunn and whedon for this so far thor is the only MCU franchise not to keep a director for at least one of it's sequels.

Man, I wish they had stuck with the powerful Thor from the first Thor movie instead of the nerfed punching bag we got in Avengers and The Dark World. I really hope Marvel is gonna show us Thor's rage in the upcoming movies, and I mean real super saiyan level shit with MASSIVE AMOUNTS of lightning and thunder and DESTRUCTION. I want them to make him everyone's favorite avenger.

I know that he's supposed to "hold back" because he's a hero, but does that mean you have to make him a BITCH!!? All I'm asking for is a few scenes (or just one, really), where we see what The Odinson is truly capable of. Hulk may be slightly stronger PHYSICALLY, but Thor certainly is the most POWERFUL avenger.

I also want them to STOP trying to show how powerful the villains are by making them beat up Thor! He is the MIGHTY THOR for crying out loud! I hope they'll rectify these errors in Ragnarok. Just turn up his badass-factor once in a while, and I'll be happy.

End of rant.

@ckal- Kevin Feige said at their Phase 3 presentation that Thor 3 would be the "Winter Soldier" of phase 3 and that Thor would be taken to another level in his own franchise. Yea I agree that something like that should have already happened a long time ago, but it still and most likely will happen at this point (even if it seems too late). So I wouldn't say it's "silly" to think, because the possibilities are still great

I liked some things and disliked others. The interplay between the Asgardians is great but the Earth stuff and humans are weak. I also didnt feel the Kirby'ish slant on the tech. I understand how Thor was presented in the beginning but I'm more fond of the JMS/Aaron style medival approach. The jet boats and cannons were a bit "too much" for me kind of like the difference in tech between IM and IM2.

Thor himself needs more development though, Loki is really fleshed out well but Thor needs something more. In the first one he had his anger issues and unworthiness. Now that he's worthy again he's become bland.

More chemistry between him and Sif please, more tension between him and Odin an a more adventurous spirit would all be welcome. The focus needs to shift, Thor and Jane aren't exactly the greatest couple in comics.

Thor 1 was just Beauty and the Beast anal-raped of 97% of its character development and plot. Hard to believe the sequel was even worse.

You would think with a GAME OF THRONES director, this movie would have been a MCU classic! He had everything! A blockbuster budget, endless material with great characters and story lines haha NOPE
