Marvel Studios has a stellar track record but many fans agree that they stumbled somewhat with Thor: The Dark World back in 2013. Despite that, the Alan Taylor helmed sequel has a score of 66% on Rotten Tomatoes and it grossed over $644 million at the worldwide box office.

Regardless of whether you loved or hated the movie, we're now taking a look at some of the artwork which was used to bring Asgard and its many inhabitants to life after Kenneth Branagh's first instalment (mostly) kept things grounded here on Midgard.

Today, we're putting the spotlight on The Dark World's main characters: Thor, Loki, The Warriors Three (Fandral, Hogun, and Volstagg), Sif, Odin, Frigga, and Heimdall. While these aren't alternate designs as such, they do provide some insight into how they were all imagined by these talented artists before being brought to life on the big screen.

So, to take a look, all you guys have to do is click on the "View List" button down below.

Thor's costume was definitely improved upon by the time this sequel rolled around as it took on less of an artificial appearance and instead felt like it had been more inspired by Game of Thrones

Loki starts the movie behind bars thanks to his actions in The Avengers but it didn't take long for the God of Mischief to win his freedom and then fake his death before stealing the throne.

Odin also received a new look in Thor: The Dark World and the relationship between him and his son was expanded on here as well. He also had a badass role in some action-packed flashbacks.

Frigga died in the sequel at the hands of Malekith and that went a long way in bringing together Thor and Loki when it became clear that they would have to team up to take down the villain.

The Warriors Three were once again overlooked in this sequel and while they had a decent enough role, it's actually the otherwise excellent Thor: Ragnarok which really wasted the trio.

We haven't actually seen Sif since the events of this movie (well, not including Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) and fans are desperately hoping that she'll make an unexpected return in Avengers: Endgame.

Another character who has largely been wasted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Heimdall was ultimately killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War after just a few seconds of screentime.

That time you ran out of ideas for click-bait, so you went back in time to bring up a movie that is older than most people who frequent CBM.

Did anyone do an article here about Marvel confirming the theory that Loki was under the influence of the staff and the mindstone in “The Avengers”, driving him to be more vicious and cruel?
