Chris Hemsworth picks up Mjolnir for thor's second solo outing in Thor: The Dark World. Following Malekith, leader of the Dark Elves, a long sworn nemesis of Asgard (isn't everyone?) who seeks to use "The Aether" to plunge the universe into darkness during the convergance. Now by the time The Dark World reached cinemas we Marvel Cinematic Fans had been pretty spoiled for choice. Most of the previous entries had been smahs hits and widely well recieved.

With Thor's latest adventure picking up shortly after the events of The Avengers you would think the stakes would have been incredibly high. Yes the world was under seige and under massive threat yet it never felt that way. Malekith, played by the ever charming character actor Christopher Eccleston, had no personality and was an utter snooze at the best of times. Chris Hemsworth who also drips charisma lacked any this time around, mostly due to bad writing and a need to make "the dark sequel" but it goes so against the Thor this universe had already established. Natalie Portman, a great actress in her own right, was left with little to work with and only further cemeted her as unnecessary in the MCU. Even the likes of Sir Anthony Hopkins was wasted by putting him into the ever convient Odin Sleep.

The action was bland and forgettable and the direction was par for the course without ever seeking to break some new ground. There were some good moments throughout including a brilliantly practical effect involving a rotating truck but most of the films promise falls by the way side as chance after chance get wasted.
