Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

THOR: THE DARK WORLD was directed by Alan Taylor ("Game of Thrones") and will be coming to DVD soon. Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Rene Russo, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Zachary Levi, Jaimie Alexander, Ray Stevenson, Kat Dennings, Christopher Eccleston, and Idris Elba.

Great stuff Nail...glad you post this FX and concept art stuff here on cbm, just don't know what I enjoy more, that, or the cosplay ;)

I loved this movie...though wished there was 10-15 more minutes of Malekith/Dark Elves/Kurse scenes/backstories...would have been an even better movie...was hoping there would be a lot of deleted scenes on the DVD or a director's cut, I haven't bought it yet, is there only one deleted scene with Malekith? Thought that's what I heard...

I'm surprised Charlie hasn't been in here talking about how much he hated this film...lol

This movie would have been epic if the movie had the same running time as Cap 2. They would have been able to have longer battles, more Malekith, Kurse, Sif, and the Warriors Three. Also, instead of the Dark Elves having dark matter guns, they should have used Elven magic, swords, and recurve bows. Some of the Asgardians should have been wielding axes.

@Turk, I don't think Alan Taylor was the problem, there are some great moments in the film, ultimately the script was just quite bland, from the villain, Thor-Jane relationship, the unnecessary humor.

Anyway, I really hope Thor uses more lightning against his enemies, he is the "God of Thunder" after all.

For a company that claims to allow their directors a lot of freedom, Alan Taylor, director of THOR TDW doors time marvel Ayer his experience with them. Said they didn't allow him to do much.

Damn... This movie and Ironman 3 nearly destroyed the entire Phase 2. Fortunately, The Winter Soldier is so good that it out-weights all the below-mediocre quality of the first 2 movies of Phase II.

The only problem I have with Thor is that they seem to limit his power by a huge amount, apart from that I like TDW and have Watched Thor more then any other Marvel movie.

Damn what an underwhelming film.

It doesn't have an interesting story. The characters are just there and don't do really that much. The film is empty and easy to forget. It tries to be emotional in which it also fails. Frigga suddenly has a bigger role but then she dies but pretty much no one says something about it. Only a memorial and that's it.
Loki does what exactly? Another simple/shameful joker rip-off performance of Hiddleston with a hollow character.

The dialogues are cringeworthy, not a single scene in the entire film is memorable. It's nowhere as spectacular as it could've been. Sif is barely there. They hint at a love triangle but no. Apparently the Dark Elves attacking London and the Nine Realms (who look really uninspiring and empty) in the same line is obviously not that big of a deal. I think the army got involved… Sort of. O yeah, they flew into another realm and came back just in time. Sigh. Not to forget, where are the other Avengers? And please don't give me that the reason for them not to be there is that everything happens at once. Even that should've been said. And is a pretty weak explanation in itself.

The Dark World, what dark world? It's just a wasteland with an odd sky. Really, the designs in this films are as simple as if they didn't had enough time to develop.

Malekith. Who? Another unimpressive and forgettable villain of the MCU. The best villain so far was Obadiah Stane and even he (éven though played by the great Bridges) was underwhelming. So Malekith, one of those Dark Elves who wants darkness… His character isn't well developed nor is he daunting in any scene (since he is the villain, you'd expect him to be). The fight between him and Thor is bland and not so exciting as they want it to be. Not to forget that apparently his own ship is able to crush him to death in the dark world… for real…

Not to forget Selvig, another great actor wasted in such a role. He does not only appear once naked on screen (blurred out) but at least three times. Poor Skarsgard, he's too good for this.

I could go on an on since there are too many failures in this film. It's unwatchable. I'm surprised I managed to watch the entire film. Even though I watched it in three parts. It was too painful and laughable (not in a positive way).

I love the Marvel superheroes, even though most of them are owned by other studios. But it's a smack in the face to see what they're doing with the MCU. And not to the first after credit bit of the film… Now GotG looks really awful. Poor poor poor Benicio Del Toro, great in The Usual Suspects and Traffic and now in that rubbish. I feel bad for him. He's also too good for this. But yeah, money.

But of course, GotG is gonna make some decent money but I surely won't see it in theater, it comes damn close to slapstick. As for Avengers 2… It's a shame Whedon directs, since he directed the first film as a tv film which was not in it's favor. I'm not looking forward to it.

@JayTopSix: Every time a new MCU movie is released they say it's the best yet. And oh were they wrong before (IM3,Thor2). Of all the Avengers, Steve Rogers is the most interesting character who was seriously underlit in Avengers. I hope The Winter Soldier is a good film but I can wait till the blu-ray. So far, it doesn't look so special to me.
