TinTin is not "gay". I grew up with it in the 70' and it was even pushed by schools because a lot of the story had a catholic background and morals. In a sens, like "curious george" or anything having that vocation.

I can honestly say, TinTin guide the way to a lof of people of my age..and I respect it as much as i do for any comic book I still enjoy today.

I read a few of the comics, they are amazing and you see why it has a lot of influence on a lot of shows and people would never know it. They had like three references on the simpsons, even as far as cameos of TinTin and Haddock in a recent episode. I have faith in Speilberg with this project, its a kid version of Indiana Jones, WHATS NOT TO LIKE!!!

Wasn't TinTin supposed to be really racist or something? I've never read TinTin so I can't say for sure but I've been told it's not very PC by today's standards :P

@comiccritic- Well he did [frick] up Indy Jones, so maybe there's quite a lot not to like.

So does this mean we'll get an Asterix cartoon if this ends up being a hit?

@ Ryden

Who cares if it's politically incorrect? I find that only adds to the charm. Hopefully Spielberg won't sanitise it too much. Don't like, don't watch, right?

I am a french person from montreal, so sorry if my english is not always good.

I didn't mean catholic in a bad way you know..I am no "true believer" myself. It was just to explain the historical context of Tintin. I am talking about a time where there was no cellphone, and the use of a typewriter was the only big social media you could get. You had no *F* word in the comics, but Captain Hadock swearing was pure poetry...

...But the comparison to a young Indianna jones type would be more appropriates indeed. It was created for the children of the time and tried to evolved like everything else. For the "Tintin was racist" comment, I just would like to say that if I look back at ANY media of the 50' 60' 70', some topics were depicted with the thinking of the time unfortunatly and some historical reference can be challenge with today philosophy.People over 40 years old like me, knows what i'm talking about.

As for the campaign itself, I think it could have been crafted better.

Getting interested. By the way does anybody know who is going to portray the lead character? Simon Pegg looks like Tintin.

I grew up with French comics. I can say Tintin is the best comic book I laid eyes on. Yes I can compare it to all the american comics because I grew up on both styles. I started reading marvel & dc comics since I was 6. Now I'm 32 and still reading them.
American comics are to me more like repeated formulas modified to fit different tastes and different ages.
Belgian, French and European comics in general are richer and more universal. They usually pass the test of time. Tintin, Asterix and Lucky Luc are my favorite comics.

It's to early to tell whether or not this will be any good however I loved the cartoon series. I agree with you Polygame that Captain Haddock was a really well written character. I really hope Speilberg gets this right as he has been off his game for a while.
Also Starscream4president, I don't know whether or not you've ever heard of the Blake and Mortimer comic books by Edgar Pierre Jacobs but they were also really good.

Also I heard they were going to make this a trilogy with three other characters. Does anyone know if they plan to do "Tintin in Tibet", because that was my favourite in the series.

Kalabog@ Jamie Bell is doing the voice of Tintin. Andy Serkis is Captain Haddock. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are the voices of Inspectors Thompson & Thomson. And Daniel Craig is the pirate Red Rackham.

Bigbywolf@ The first is based on The Secret of the Unicorn and Red Rackham´s Treasure. And the second if i remember right, Jackson said that its based on The Seven Crystal Balls and The Prisoners of the Sun. I think the third should be based on The Cigars of the Pharaoh and The Blue Lotus or The Black Island (Which is my favorite from the series)
