We have heard that
Anchorman Director Adam McKay was in serious talks to helm the adaptation of
The Boys. When Collider sat down to talk to him about his latest film
The Other Guys, they asked him all about it..
In the vid he confirms that they are in the middle of talks, but that nothing is definite yet. He puts to rest the notion that like so many properties, the film could be pg13 saying
"It doesn't work unless it’s R.” He said he told Sony it has to be R and they are on board with the rating. He then compared The Boys to
Watchmen saying it’s a
“current day Watchmen” and that it it looks at what a hero is and
“places it in a time where monopolies have bought our country and you incorporate that as well.” Then says he hasn’t been that excited about something in a long time.
Ok, first of all, the
Watchmen comparison really doesn't hold up for me! I mean I like
The Boys but to try to put any kind of real weight to the story is a bit ludicrous. Ennis likes to write about sex and violence, sometimes both at the same time..thats pretty much what that comic is ABOUT! But then again I haven't read em all yet, maybe there is some mystical revelation of high art that I don't know about. Anyway, I'm glad this looks to be moving forward, McKay is clearly a big fan so I'm sure he will do it justice.
