For the most part, Amazon's
The Boys is is a pretty faithful adaptation of its source material, but there were a few significant changes - particularly when it came to how the first season wrapped up.
In the closing moments of the season finale, we find out that Billy Butcher's wife survived giving birth to Homelander's half-supe child and was living in the suburbs with their son. Butcher only discovers this when the leader of The Seven saves his life and drops him right on their lawn.
In the comics, both mother and son are dead by this point, so this alteration obviously has massive implications for the season 2 storyline.
While chatting to
Collider, showrunner Eric Kripke reveals why he - along with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg - decided to make such a major change.
“You have this kid who’s half human and half monster; half the person Butcher loves most in the world and half the person Butcher hates most in the world," he explained.
"That’s just too perfect a character to not keep alive.”
It'll definitely be interesting to see what impact this has on Billy's motivations for wanting revenge on Homelander, and season 2 as a whole. We do know that
You’re the Worst actor Aya Cash is joining the cast as utter POS Stormfront, but Kripke reveals that another fan-favorite character who was (mostly) absent from season 1 will also feature: Terror the bulldog.
“We felt, as the writers, the fans need him. We had to bite the bullet and have one [frick]ing pain-in-the-ass episode to shoot with the dog, and then at the end the dog will return to the safe and comfortable place it’s been. But it does come out of retirement for one more mission with Butcher, and so we can at least put Butcher with Terror for one big episode.”
