Deadline has revealed that David Morrissey has joined the cast of AMC's The Walking Dead as The Governor. He will be a series regular in the third season of the show which is expected to air later this year. Fans of the comic book will know that the character makes life very difficult for Rick Grimes and his fellow survivors, although it's unclear just how much the small screen adaptation of Robert Kirkman's series will delve into the source material. Either way, this is fantastic news for fans of the comic and show alike.

Season 2 of TWD has been like watching the Star Wars prequels. You know it sucks and the next episode will be just as awful but you feel obligated to watch it anyway.

Season 3 has the potential to blow audiences minds, as long as they can keep the show as brutal as the source material. So far they've done well in that regard.

On a side note, I don't understand the hate for season 2. The farm setting opened up a lot of character develpoment, both good and bad(and some annoying), was full of some great zombie/human action, and a lot was built up in the first half; which is now paying off in the second half.
I think people are trying to see this show as something that it's not. Just like the comic, at its core, it is a character study with action sprinkled in (At least the way I experience both mediums). It's a survivor story with drama. What fun would a show be with cardboard characters?

@KittenKisses
I don't think that's a good comparison at all... imo

Good to know, I'm liking how the show is quickly becoming darker, and next season might even take that up another level.

I disagree with people who say season 2 has sucked thus far. I think there has been a lot of great sequences. Great character development too. It's important to build the tension between the characters so when shit does hit the fan it actually carries weight. Like when zombie Sophia walks out of the barn in the midseason finale after they spent the entire half season looking for her and Rick has to shoot her. I don't care what anyone says, that was an epic finale. It can't be all zombies all the time.

This could be a good choice, although I always envisioned Michael Wincott, with his "I just swallowed some hydrochloric acid" voice, as The Gov whenever I read the comic. Oh well, I've been not unsatisfied so far!

The first 2 episodes of the 2nd half of season 2 have salvaged what has otherwise been an uneventful and somewhat boring season full of strange decisions and dialog by its characters.

I have never read the comics but a new character of this much apparent clout sounds like a good idea. I can only take the "this is my farm, my rules" crap for so long.

Don't get me wrong, I like the show and all but there are some pretty annoying and redundant elements to it like Dale somehow guessing that Shane killed Otis, the random people living at the farm who appear out of nowhere, Darryl going on and on about the "little girl," Grimes wife, what's her face, flipping her car after randomly deciding to 'help' the boys in town. That, and the all round way that the plot kinda moves along in a forced way which requires characters to do and say dumb things. I don't need more Zombies, just a better story like season 1, but things seem to be picking up after the season 2 break so I'll be tuning in every week til the end of the season.

this is insanely good...im really looking forward to the third season the transformation that rick and the group undergoes after the governor is pretty intense hopefully they stay true to the comics at least in regards to why the governor is such an important character and how rick and carl change after.

Best series on TV PERIOD!!! I love the comic, something about the show makes the series a tad bit better. I like that the TV series story line took a left hand turn along the way. The show has become it's own beast and it's not a carbon copy of the comics story line. Andrea on the show is HOT!!!
