There was a time when AMC's The Walking Dead was considered a can't-miss television show that sparked passionate fervor among fans that was akin to the MCU in its prime.

Those days are long past but the network is looking to recapture a bit of that old magic with a new spin-off that focuses on Rick Grimes and Michonne, played by Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira.

Premiering on October 31, 2010, The Walking Dead concluded on November 20, 2022, after 11 episodes and 177 episodes.  The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live is set after the main series' end and looks to reunite Michonne with Rick Grimes, who disappeared after season 9. Michonne left the show in season 10 to go search for Rick.

Now, everyone's favorite power couple from the apocalyptic world, are back together in this six-episode extravaganza that promises to be both spectacular and devastating.

The Ones Who Live will surely feature the zombies aka walkers, but the true danger appears to be a recently-formed human society called the Civic Republic. The great Terry O'Quinn portrays the mysterious Virgil, the leader of the Civic Republic, who offers protection and security, but seemingly at a great cost (Walking Dead fans surely haven't come across a villain like this before...).

The teaser trailer below reveals that the Civic Republic might not be what it seems, as it shows snippets of Rick and Michonne trapped in the crossfire of a bloody battle.

Scott M. Gimple returns to serve as showrunner for the sequel, which will premiere on February 25 on AMC and AMC+.

The official synopsis for the spin-off reads, "The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live presents an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living."

"Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?"

What are your predictions for Rick and Michonne's reunion? What do you think the Civic Republic is up to?

Yes, a spin off of the old show.

...focusing on the main character of that show 🤣

It’s fascinating to me that people are still into this series.

@mountainman - there's no good logic to it. I just have seen it all so I have to see how it ends

@Vigor - I get that. I’ve stuck with shows that I was no longer enjoying before just to finish them.

I bowed out of this one quite a long time ago, but there must still be a sizable enough audience or else they wouldn’t continue making the stuff.

Andrew Lincoln would have made a great Reed Richards.

Post TWD spinoffs have been surprisingly good IMO. Dead City 8/10, Daryl Dixon 7/10, so hoping this one brings a good story for Rick, because the main show suffered after he left. Better be worth it.

Willing to give it a chance after Dixon's show since it was better than I thought it would be, especially with the cinematography.

@MuadDib - Oh wow! A third one! The franchise is *itself* the walking dead! I'm not sure we can get any more meta!

Way too late. Lol. I don’t care anymore. When Rick Grimes left, twd show basically ended for me. I enjoyed the Whisperers arc but after that I couldn’t watch anymore. Commonwealth was so cringe.

The clever thing with this series is that it's called the walking "dead" BUT it isn't clear if that refers to the actual dead, the humans, or even BOTH sides! I'm really not sure it's something the series tapped into hard enough, but hearing that the main enemy here will be HUMANS, that's a mind-blowing callback to this clever title and a new and unique direction for the series. Almost excited for this!

This show crapped out it's last poop piles many many years ago. It just got too repetitive and boring IMO. I stopped watching many years ago. It has become an IP that's reaching too far to gain some of its viewers back with spinoffs that are also boring AF

I can't wait!!! I haven't missed a single TWD series episode. Even the web shorts and spinoffs. However, we already know they won't reunite til maybe the first 10 mins of the last episode LOL. So, I hope there's lots of action, and not so much filler in-between. The Daryl Dixon series managed to be quite a good surprise by keeping you engaged with action, and minimal filler.

I struggle with this. I like both characters individually, but they never made sense together for me. They just feel forced. But aside from that, Lincoln - in live action - doesn't seem like Grimes anymore. Either he's lost the character, or the character as written/directed in this series is not the same.
