THE WALKING DEAD: A Major Rumored [SPOILER] Didn’t Happen This Week, So What Does It Mean?

Plenty of rumors were being passed around the internet heading into this week’s episode of The Walking Dead, and now that it’s aired, we know that a pretty big one didn’t end up happening. SPOILERS below.

Following the release of the previews and clips for the latest episode of The Walking Dead, many jumped to the conclusion that Carl Grimes would have a deadly run-in with some walkers. And while Carl came pretty close to biting the dust, he ultimately made it out of the situation alive, and with a new friend.

Carl isn’t exactly the most popular character among the show’s fans, and rumors about his exit from The Walking Dead have been circulating for a while now. These rumors really picked up last year when the actor who plays him, Chandler Riggs, revealed he was planning on going to college.

With Riggs starting his education at the University of Georgia this year, we’ll have to see how the young actor manages to balance acting and school life. So far this season, Carl’s had pretty limited screen time. The show has jumped around in time, dedicating some episodes to only a handful of characters and ignoring other characters for weeks. Because of this, the show might be able to work around Riggs’ class schedule, but if his character is going to develop in any meaningful way, this will likely become pretty difficult.

So what can we expect for Carl for the rest of this season? Well, just because he didn’t die in The King, The Widow, and Rick, it doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be safe for long. If the showrunners are planning on killing him, they could just be waiting until the midseason finale.

Also, there’s a chance that this past episode has set up Carl’s fate. His new friend, Siddiq, doesn’t seem to have any sinister motives, but in the midst of the zombie apocalypse, you can’t get too trusting. There are also some theorists who think that Carl was bit by one of the walkers that attacked him in the woods, and that his fate will be revealed in a later episode.

While I’m not crazy about his character, I was still relieved to see him make it out of that encounter alive. Since Carl has barely been in this season, having him die in a random walker attack in the woods would be pretty unimaginative. The kid has survived some close calls in the past, so dying like that would also be kind of anticlimactic. If Carl does get killed off this year, it should at least be done in a way that will have a significant impact on the events of season 8.

What do you think is going to happen to Carl this season? If you think he’s safe, who do you have next in your TWD dead pool? Sound off below.

I was surprised how old he looked last night. Time flies.

Carl aging shouldnt be a huge factor since there will hopefully be the time skip after all out war ends, I really thought Morgan would be the huge death this season but apparently that may no longer be happening with the crossover but all out war really needs to raise the stakes and kill off some characters but hopefully not the ones who are important after the time skip.

I like Carolll. Sue me, but I hope he sticks around. Not killing that one Savior that went for the gun was dumb though. I get giving some a chance but that went way too far and it's ridiculous, illogical decisions like that piss people off and make them turn on this show.

He is a very bad actor imo. Him and Carol are one of the main reasons I stopped watching unfortunately. Too many characters getting attention and getting boring. Hopefully the story gets better and the writing like the first 3 seasons or so.

Carl is a useless character on the show. But the writing on the show continues to go downhill. What possessed Rick to go to the junk yard gangs nesting area by himself and demand that they join him or die? Now he is sitting in a storage container, practically naked and in the heat while the rest of his crew are out trying to see who could out John Wayne the other.

Carl is not going to die. He's integral to the final season. But after this arc in the comic, he leaves to be a blacksmith apprentice, so I wouldn't be shocked if he's only around for an episode or two next season.

I have watched every episode of every season so far but unless this season ends in a way that truly makes next season a necessary watch, then I'm done.

There's just no intensity to it anymore and characters that I really liked are now becoming annoying (perhaps that is being done on purpose). The last 2 seasons just don't feel like they've hit as hard as they should've. Negan and the Saviors are supposed to be the biggest threat to Rick and co yet, but so far Negan has nothing on The Governor who I think has been the best villain the show has ever had. I just haven't been sold on how dangerous and powerful Negan and The Saviors are supposed to be.

Who writes this junk? Carl was literally in the season opener's flash forward scene.
