THE WALKING DEAD Companion/Spin-Off Series Gets A Pilot Order At AMC

While The Walking Dead will continue to follow the events of the comic book series upon which it is based, the upcoming companion series is set to show more of how the zombie apocalypse is impacting the rest of the world. It's now been given a pilot order, and details can be found here!

The Walking Dead's companion series has shuffled (because it has zombies in, get it?) one step closer to the TV as the series has now been given a pilot order. While it doesn't have the straight to series pickup that the cable network gave to Breaking Bad prequel Better Call Saul, AMC do seemingly intend to go to series, with this order being for a pilot episode. Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert will all be producing, while Dave Erickson (Marco Polo), co-created and co-wrote the pilot with Kirkman. He'll also serve as showrunner on the series.

"Almost from the beginning of The Walking Dead on AMC, fans have been curious about what is going on in the zombie apocalypse in other parts of the world. In fact, beyond requests for zombie cameos, it’s the question I get asked the most," AMC president Charlie Collier said in a statement today. "Obviously, we all take our stewardship of the original franchise incredibly seriously and we, along with Robert, Gale, David and now Dave, are all proceeding with extreme care in order to ensure that we are offering fans something truly compelling, engaging and distinct." Kirkman adds: "There are many corners of The Walking Dead universe that remain unseen in the shadows. Being given the opportunity to shine a light into those corners and see what lurks out there is an absolute thrill." Production is scheduled for later this year.

Why not make a two hour special or something. This will not be good for the show.

-1 season
-14 one hour episodes
- each episode follows a different small group of survivors
- each episode shows the beginning and end of a story line specific to that group
- no connection or carry over from one episode to another or the groups shown
- all 14 episodes showcase a different part of the world affected by the zombie Apocalypse and how the people of that region are surviving
- some type of Easter egg in each episode or whole episode that connects them to ricks group/ the main show ( example a french ep. where the CDC guys in France think they are close to "cure" like the CDC guy in Atlanta told rick about.)

'Rest of the world'

In other words, it'll be set somewhere else in 'Murica. Still, hope this series ends up as good as the original.

I'm losing interest in WD pretty fast. I've tried to rewatch season 4 and it's just unbearable.
It's the only season that is only good the 1st time you see it. The others are rewatchable.

Its not a tv series about zombies, jag-offs, its a character driven drama about survival in unknown situation. a second series is very welcome.

So what's the pilot going to be based on besides trying to survive in a zombie apocalypse?
