THE WALKING DEAD Kicks Off Second Half Of Season Four With 15.8 Million Viewers

The Walking Dead returned last night for the second half of season four, and the long hiatus between now and The Governor's attack on the prison did little to dampen enthusiasm for the series as the mid-season premiere delivered an incredible 15.8 million viewers.

AMC’s The Walking Dead returned last night with the mid-season premiere of its fourth season, delivering 15.8 million viewers and 10.4 million adults 18-49. It was the #1 telecast for the night among adults 18-49, including the Sochi Winter Olympics. The Walking Dead continues to be the #1 show on all of television among the coveted 18-49 demographic. With time-shifted playback, last night’s premiere should exceed 20 million viewers.

“With a number of high-profile choices on television last night, for The Walking Dead to deliver record ratings is remarkable. Thanks to the fans, who have been so supportive of this show in so many ways. We share your passion for this world,” said Charlie Collier, AMC president. “Thanks also to the terrific team of writers, starting with Scott Gimple and Robert Kirkman, who with our outstanding executive producers, cast and crew pour their hearts into this series, always with the fans in mind. I speak for everyone at AMC in expressing my sincere appreciation and our shared excitement for the journey ahead. Chocolate pudding for all!”

Following the 9 pm premiere of The Walking Dead, AMC presented Talking Dead at 10 pm, which became the highest premiere in series history with 5.9 million viewers, including 3.9 million adults aged 18-49. Hosted by Chris Hardwick, Talking Dead features Hardwick and fans, actors, producers and other TV enthusiasts, discussing and dissecting that night’s Dead premiere. The mid-season premiere featured guests Greg Nicotero and Dania Gurira.

I am a die hard fan but last nights episode was a bore fest, the only highlights were Michone's nightmares/flashbacks and the preview for next week.

I didn't even know this dogshit was on last time. I only watch this show as filler and hoping desperately for it to actually be good. Whatever, Game of Thrones returns soon. Time to see an elderly British gentleman wearing a lion signal be more intimidating and scary then all the [frick]ing walkers in this show.

I take it no one has read volume 9 of the trades? The episode followed it pretty closely.

And am I the only one who finds Rick boring? Oh, he's psychologically screwed... and that's about it. His character progression in S3 was on crack or bipolar.

Yeah - the quality of this series dropped massively after the first seasons. The only people watching now are the 'lost' crowd who watch for the character development that barely occurs anymore. All the characters now are unlikeable to the extent I want to see them get torn into a billion pieces. The last episodes of season 2 and the mid-season finale of season 3 were the only episodes worth watching - and even they sucked.

@Scarilian I watch it because I just enjoy the show... I may be one of the few, but I just enjoy watching it.

Well I have for this second half of the season because the characters are back to survivor mode and hopefully it will be back to season 1. All the complaints that people are stating are pretty spot on at this point. I will still continue to watch it just like I watch Arrow and Agents of Shield on a regular basis.

How can people still watch this crap?
Im a HUGE zombie fan and not even the zombies in the show could keep me coming back every week.

It was a good episode, Carl needs to get that ass whoop, lol. There was a classic comicbook scene too.

@ Doppelganger

The problem is they have steered away form the Zombies/Walkers the last season and a half and made it about human vs human which to me is just any show nothing unique in my book. Like I stated before I hope this second half of this season will back to the roots of show.

I have True Detective to look forward to on Sundays, that show is just on another level with the drama and acting.

People who say the show is boring need to stop watching. They don't care about the real substance on the show- they just want to see people killing walkers and other mindless action.

The show is a character piece. It focuses on what a zombie apocalypse would do to people mentally, physically, and emotionally. That's what this show is about and thank god cause seeing zombies killing/being killed all the time would get boring quick. Last nights episode was great.

@ mattattack

I agree with your comments but only to a certain extent. What made the show rock from season one was the surviving story lines which included the mentally, physically, and emotion that surrounds the walkers. Heck the show is called The Walking Dead.

That being said the trailer for next weeks episode really shows that they are all back into survivor mode and just trying to stay alive.

Well I have been very critical on Agents of Shield but the last episode was good, the actual Deathlok leg moment was the best thing out of all the episodes. I hope they keep it up but we shall see.

Hey guys, I get it, I'm a NOOB which means I dont know crap and I just signed up for an account but I have been surfing this site for years now and these comments have garnered a registration and a rebuttal. There are people here from day 1 that have bitched about this show. They bitch about being at the farm too long. They bitch about season 3 and the governor and andrea and Lori and how that all went down. They bitch about Michonne not having enough screen time or character development. Then Kirkman comes along and writes an episode that is almost panel for panel from the comic with the added bonus of Michonne's dreams and character arc, and you guys still bitch!!! Please, STFU and go watch Arrow. This show is not for you.
Sincerely,
A NOOB who loves the comic and the show and Marvel and DC, who hates Iron Man 3 and the Dark Knight Rises but loves Batman Begins and Iron Man 1 and Christopher Nolan and Joss Whedon

So much hate ! Last night's episode was pretty great. Show has it's ups and downs, blame it on the constant show runner changes, but it's been pretty solid lately.
I've read every comic issue too btw.

So defenders of bad TV and Movies still fall back on the 'hater' crap. That would mean a guy who complains about a crappy burger and cold fries is a hater.

The show last night was a bore. And this season has been a waste of time.
People that call it for what it is are not "haters". That's ridiculous. Are you going to call them 'bigots' next??

The audience indicates people are ready for a great horror show. This is not that show!

Bitching about the show not being close enough to the comics and then bitching about it being boring when it is nearly panel for panel with one of the comics is just really bitching for bitching sakes. Not saying you ever bitched about that, but I've seen it here for years.

If I go to McDonalds and have a crappy experience, I dont go back. When Heroes got shitty, I quit watching. It takes a ton of effort to get online to bitch week after week. You dudes need to get laid and to get a hobby.

Will a story on here about a TV show or movie that's not about a Marvel or DC character(s) ever garner more than one page of comments? I think not. Therefore, I think this site should keep stories like this OFF OF the main page!

One more point...why the obsession with ratings? And numbers? We don't get paid if the show does well. How does it help me (us) to know how many viewers this show had or how much money The Avengers made in its first week? Bragging rights? I love how a dude in Kansas will brag to a dude in Vermont about how much money TDK, MOS or The Avengers made. Did the dude in Kansas produce the movie? Direct it? Write it? Nope. Nope. And Nope. Doesn't help me (us) at all. Just sayin'.
