The Walking Dead returned to AMC last night with arguably its most brutal and violent episode to date. A sixth season was announced ahead of the season five premiere and you can't blame the cable network for being confident with ratings like these. The record setting numbers saw an average audience of 17.3 million watch the episode with a 7.7 rating in adults 18-49. The season four premiere had 16.11 million viewers and these numbers completely decimate everything from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to Gotham and The Flash. "It's a Dead man's party. Who could ask for more?" said Charlie Collier, AMC president said in a statment today. "Enormous thanks to our friends and executive producers Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, Greg Nicotero - who also directed last night's terrific premiere - Gale Anne Hurd, Dave Alpert and Tom Luse and all of their fellow producers, cast and crew for everything they do to make the #1 show on television such a unique and incredible experience for the fans. 'The Walking Dead' is one of those increasingly rare shows today that can command a live audience not significantly cannibalized by time-shifted viewing. Who would have thought that cannibalized television could be curtailed by cannibal-ized television?" No wonder they're working on a spin-off! Did you tune in to the premiere?

Deservedly so. I have enjoyed most of the episodes each season, but this was by far their best premiere. I was damned stressed!

Still not better ratings than Agents of SHIELD. Amirite?

It also showed rather than told so much particularly with Rick and the whole point if the show, about humanity and maintaining it despite the horrific world they live in.

Amazing show, don't know how they keep churning out such incredible seasons/episodes, but it's amazing.

Must be some great writers on their team.

"completely decimate everything from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to Gotham and The Flash."

Not surprised, those shows suck ass. Well, at least Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. does and Marvel's Agents of Peggy Carter will. Gotham was a C+ and Flash was a B (at best). It is hard for shit shows to get higher ratings than consistently good long running shows like The Walking Dead. The Walking Dead was made by people who loved the source material. Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has never once referenced source material and is being made by people for a quick buck who have never read a comic in their lives, the same as Gotham.

Just finished watching it. Amazing episode and easily the most violent to date...loved Rick running up behind the Terminus people and just wiping them out, though I do wish they'd spent more time on the cannibalism side of things.

@joemomma29 I can't wait for the Cowboys and Romo to implode as usual. Pittsburgh has 6 starting defenders out right now.

And Murray has never played a complete season. They're running him into the ground right now. He's going to go down at some point.

Huh? I think you were attempting to throw an ad hominem at me, but we all took philosophy 101 and know that approach won't amount to much. ;) lol

17 mil viewers must mean its the greatest show of all time, you know, like The Big Bang Theory.

Episode summed up why this show is so bad. Another safe and pointless episode. You just knew the four redshirts at the end of the row would be killed at the start whilst Rick and co would survive. Every single member came out of Terminus unscathed. No one was killed or eaten. A massive waste of time and terrible writing all round. Terminus operates ruthlessly and efficiently until Rick and the gang show up and then they suddenly can't do anything. Yet another community that ceases to properly function once Rick and the gang appear.

There's just no sense of danger in this so called zombie apocalypse at all.

They've also really ruined Tyrese, just like how they ruined Andrea.

@kevberg

Does that mean Perez, Byrne, Miller, Greg Lands, and Adam Hughes can't draw humans? Or that Robert Liefeld can't trace or photocopy correctly? Is it still considered drawing if you trace or photocopy other people's art? Either way, funny stuff dude. ;)

I dont know why I hate DC. I liked the batman movies...the one with the heath ledger and the old one with danny devito and the cat woman and christopher walken.
