I think most of us can agree that The Walking Dead is a pretty good/great show, but there are those that are upset at the deviations made to the comics on which it is based. For example, certain characters have already died in the comic timeline that are still alive in the show and vice versa. The survivors are also on Herchel's farm a LOT longer than anyone expected. But are these changes for the best? Robert Kirkman thinks so, and explains why in the below video interview with IGN. He also touches on the Shane/Rick conflict, and if and when we can expect to see fan favorite characters like The Governer and Michonne. Spoiler warning, we can..at some point!

I love the Governer. Probably the most interesting character in the series IMO. Once Shane dies off unless we get some intense zombie action, he needs to come in immediately Season 3.

I'm more than happy with the changes. Keeping Shane alive was the best thing they could have done on the show and his presence in familiar situations from the comics causes things to turn out different. A just straight up adaptation from the comics would be less interesting to me since I would know everything before it happened. The changes definitely keeps things more interesting. As far as The Govenor goes, I think they should save him for mid way season 3. Establish life in the prison first. Built up to his appearance. Make it something special instead of just throwing him out first thing.

@BarnaclePete You're probably right. I think if they do a midseason break they could end the midseason with Rick getting captured and his arm chopped off. (Like killing off Sophia.)

*Spoiler* This may be a strange one but I really hope one of the changes that they make is that Rick doesn't have his hand cut off. As great a part of the comic as it was I just think it would be such a pain to deal with in the live action and just wouldn't be worth the frustration!

guarantee Rick won't get his hand cut off. PRobably just get an insane beating instead that is borderline torture.

Bring on Tyreese! They should watch the helicopter go down mid-season, just before the break next season. I can't wait to see the whole plot with the prison play out. I just really wish they would bring Tyreese on already.

the show needs to do its own thing and stay as far from the comics as it has. I liked it(the comic). but it is not as great as some believe.

What a sell out. As a fan of the comic I would love to actually see the walking dead on TV. Not whatever this show is. Keep saying what the studio pays you to say. So much in the comic has been lost to the show. The characters aren't nearly as interesting as they are in the book. Oh and it would be nice if the zombie apocalypse show had some zombies in it.

I'd rather have Tyreese over Michonne and the Governor.

@NosferatuZodd He was a badass, he gave Rick a good friend, he provided an interesting power struggle when they were in the prison, he was one of the first survivors the group meets, his relationships between other characters such as Michonne and Carol were pretty good, he was a useful member of the group, he went through some pretty emotional stuff with his daughter, and he had an interesting backstory and personality.

Killing Sophie was the only thing I think was dumb. Because eventually she plays a big part when Maggie and Glen take custody of her and it forces them to kinda change into a parental role and shift their priorities. Shane is actually where I thought he should've been in the comic. Otis really didn't play that big of a part in the comic, so no biggie.

Anybody that pronounced it "Mee-Shawn" is clueless. Not trolling, just annoyed. I hope Rutina Wedley does the character justice if she truly is playing the character. And Tyrese is a big player when it comes to Carol and Michonne. Unfortunately Daryl is gonna tap that first, so it'd be interesting to see how this plays out.

IDEA- What if Shane is banned from the group for killing Otis and he leaves to become the Govenor......!?!? That would be awesome! Especially knowing how the whole prison situation ends up in the comic. If they were to stick somewhat close to that...I'd pay to see that.

The Walking Dead is one of the most critically acclaimed shows on TV. IMO, the only show better right now is Game Of Thrones. The ratings are spectacular, and as you can tell from the posts above, even fans of the comic are happy! It is EXTREMELY rare for ALL of those things to occur, yet, even when they do there will still always be the people who GET OFF on hating the things everyone else loves...

...have fun being one of those miserable fcuks. :)

well...this is easily a NON-issue. if the show is exactly like the comics, then there won't be any more surprises for those who've read the comic book series. this way, we have two DIFFERENT versions of the story and the Walking Dead universe..which is nuthin' but beneficial for everyone.
