THE WALKING DEAD Season 7, Episode 4 Promo And Sneak Peek; "Service"

Daryl was put through the wringer in tonight's episode of The Walking Dead, but the action returns to Alexandria next week as Negan lives up to his promise and imposes his will on Rick and company.

If you're still mad at Daryl for what happened to Glenn in the season seven premiere of The Walking Dead, chances are you didn't feel too sorry for him after tonight's episode of the AMC series. Regardless, things look set to get very difficult for Rick Grimes and the residents of Alexandria in seven days as Negan makes his presence felt in the community and starts throwing his weight around. 

"Service" will be a ninety minute episode, so chances are something big is going to happen. It's also worth noting in the clip below that Eugene is toying around with a radio. Fans of the comic book series will know that's a major plot point which is currently playing out, so it should be interesting to see how the show handles that. What did you guys think of tonight's instalment of The Walking Dead?

They want Negan to be like Ramsay Bolton. Unfortunately this show is no Game of Thrones and Negan is no Ramsay Bolton.

Pretty boring episode tonight. Hopefully next week will make up for it ala zombie and human violence. And now I have that "Easy Street" song stuck in my head.

@TheFamousJMC - Dwight was extremely developed... not to mention we got to see what brutal tactics Negan will take in order to break people and how gets people to convert to being a savior.

@Kman - What happened to Dwight that changed him as a person? If we are just seeing revealing info about who he is, then it's exposition.

@TheFamousJMC - Ok fine... technically yes, it was exposition. I don't see how that's a bad thing as it's a crucial to any story. This episode gave us insight into the character, that we've seen for awhile now, as more than just some dumb a-hole for Negan and really showed us what it's like for the people beneath him. And it also sets up some major character development for his character as we get some clarification on his motivations.

@Kman - Cool, I dig what you dig, but you can empathise why some people consider it a boring episode. If you went to the movies and paid $20 for that you'd be pissed.

@TheFamousJMC - Well yeah... But there's a totally different goal to a 2 hour movie vs. a 16 episode season. But have we come to this point as a society where if we don't have bloody zombie shooting action non-stop then we're now bored? The comic wasn't all just mindless zombie action. I was on the edge of my seat watching Darryl try to escape and then be confronted by Negan. And liked seeing how he brutally breaks down people like animals to mold them into what he wants.

I thought it was all pretty well done. If mindless zombie action is what America craves then they should watch World War Z on repeat. I like that this show goes a little deeper than that. (granted there have been some moments, Morgans back story for instance, that were unnecessary.) But it just seems like our attention span is ever dwindling. I mean do people watch the Godfather and consider that boring? Not exactly an action pack movie, per say.

@Kman - Are you actually interested in writing? If you are, you should check out a book called "Script Analysis" by James Thomas, it is the best book that explains the difference between plot Action and zombie action.

In Plot terms, there was no Action because Daryl remained stoic and didn't say he was Negan. If he had, then it would have been a Plot development. But because nothing changed from the beginning to the end, there was no Plot Action. That's why people are annoyed. The episode gave pretty much no reason for watching it, no advancement between the previous and the next episode, except for a bit of exposition about Dwight and Negan's wives.

@TheFamousJMC - but the previous episode we had no idea what was going on with Darryl. Where they took him? What was happening to him? What did Negan want Darryl for?

A lot of these questions were answered. Maybe the plot didn't move forward a ton but it would've been pretty empty had we not known what was going on with him and again it really helped set up what is going to happen with Dwight. So I disagree that there was no reason to watch it. I thought it did exactly what it was supposed to do.

Sure a lot of this is set up for the action that's to come.
