THE WALKING DEAD Spinoff Setting Revealed

We know AMC's The Walking Dead is set in and around Atlanta, but what about the planned spinoff series (tentatively titled "Cobalt") that's currently in the works? TV Line have discovered the location, and it should make for a very interesting take on the zombie apocalypse..

Hollywood zombies? Over the past couple of weeks, casting details for the planned The Walking Dead spinoff series have begun to surface, and now TV Line have learned where this new story set in the aftermath of an undead outbreak will take place: Los Angeles. Since The Walking Dead first premièred fans have wondered how the rest of the world was dealing with the zombie apocalypse, and though this new series won't take things too far afield, there's no doubt that an LA setting has the potential to show us how a VERY different group of individuals are handling the walkers. The show is penned by showrunner Dave Erickson and TWD comic creator Robert Kirkman, and word is it will actually be a prequel dealing with the early days of the epidemic...though that hasn't been confirmed. So far the cast includes Cliff Curtis (Sunshine), Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) and Alycia Debnam Carey (McLeod’s Daughters).

Well that ought to cut down on production costs (which is the only possible reason to have it set in LA). There are so many more interesting choices.

Huh.

I was with the people saying it should be set in Detroit.

I'm just saying, if you're trying to portray the apocalypse on a budget...

@batz11 beat me to it. Celebrity cameos galore.

Easy choice, LA, but on a positive side they'll have convenient access to bigger soundstages and visual fx houses.

They are probably doing this so production is close to where the studio and all that is...

Will this lead to spinoffs tailored to other countries?

TWD: Moscow. TWD: Toronto. TWD: Pulau Tiga.

Doubtful, as I'm sure Kirkman would want tight control of the story continuity.

@ epicjuicebox and @ thetruthhurts

No hes not this show is a stupid concept and will probably suck. because its not based on existing comic so it will be from scratch. and TWD has been going to shit since season 3. They will probably have like 10 characters and each episode focusing on a character scavenging or walking around fighting more lame zombies that are no longer threatening.

This show is going to be a waste of time with characters no one gives a shit about.

They shoulda set in in the north/midwest. Wisconsin or Chicago woulda been perfect! (Plus, I wanna see zombies in the snow)

Give me 5 reasons why Agents of Shield is a better property to watch over Arrow/Flash/Constantine/Gotham/Walking Dead

Just because they say Los Angeles, doesnt mean they cant travel to the surrounding cities and suburbs. Like the first season, they stayed in the more metropolitan area of Atlanta but later moved out of the city.
Being from SoCal myself, there are plenty of locations they can drive to that aren't the city.

I can't say that AoS is a better property than those other shows, cuz I don't watch most of them anyway so I can't compare.

But I can say with certainty that AOS season 2 is a great show, in and of itself.
ComicsDoneRight
ComicsDoneRight - 12/16/2014, 11:41 AM
Fair enough @Pedrito

I will say this, watching it last year I thought (and still currently think) it looks like if Marvel was to do a power rangers tv show. That being the case, I have gone and started from episode 1 and am slowly starting to like it, but so far its still kinda just "there", ya know? (Hoping it gets better like some of you marvel junkies seem to say it is.)

Ugh, The Walking Dead haters. -_- I can't wait until we get to the Alexandria storyarc and you leave the show so I don't have to hear from you anymore. I'm excited to see this spinoff. If any series could do a spinoff and not have to worry about tiptoeing around the original, it would be this series.
