DOCTOR WHO Confirms Yasmin Finney Is Playing Rose Noble, Donna's Daughter, In Upcoming Specials

Speculation has been running rampant for months about Yasmin Finney's "Rose" in this year's Doctor Who specials, but we can now confirm her character will be the daughter of Catherine Tate's Donna Noble.

Billie Piper's Rose became an instant fan-favourite when she debuted alongside Christopher Eccleston's Ninth Doctor in 2005's Doctor Who revival. However, the character would really shine when she joined David Tennant's Tenth iteration of this iconic hero on his adventures.

Rose's story came to an end some time ago, though she remains an incredibly important part of the Doctor Who mythos. Now, with Tennant returning to this franchise as the Fourteenth Doctor later this year, speculation has been running rampant that the beloved companion could return, albeit in a different form.

We've known for some time that Heartstopper star Yasmin Finney will play a character called Rose in this year's 60th-anniversary specials, but contrary to many a popular fan theory, she's not a reincarnated Rose or the original version with a different face.

Instead, it's been confirmed (via SFFGazette.com) that Finney will play Rose Noble, the daughter of Catherine Tate's Donna Noble!

We know that a dire fate awaits Donna - who was just as important to the Tenth Doctor as Rose - should she remember the time-traveller, but this name implies that at least some of the memories she had wiped have trickled down into her new life with Shaun Temple.

Tennant's Doctor is going to take centre stage this holiday season over the course of three specials titled "The Star Beast," "Wild Blue Yonder," and "The Giggle."

Joining him, Finney, and Tate are Neil Patrick Harris as a villain thought to be The Toymaker, Jacqueline King as Sylvia Noble, Karl Collins as Shaun Temple, Ruth Madeley as Shirley Anne Bingham, and the late Bernard Cribbins as Wilfred Mott.

So wait is this like a time travel scenario like the last time he came back or did he some how regenerate into this version a second time? It mentions he’s the 14th Doctor but how tf is that a thing lol

@Ha1frican - In the last episode 13 literally regenerated into him. It's currently unknown why but rumours and possible leaks have indicated that Neil Patrick Harris' character (who's all but confirmed as the Celestial Toymaker) is the cause of it all and is the main villain of the specials.

@Surveyor - Interesting, as a longtime fan that binges back in every few years DW cannon sounds insane written down but I’m sure in context of the show it makes sense lol

@Ha1frican - They laid down the foundation for this exactly 10 years ago during the 50th anniversary when Tom Baker returned as the Curator, supposedly a Doctor from the far future. And he explicitly mentioned that they may "revisit a few familiar faces, but just the old favorites" in the future.

I just wonder why Donna's daughter doesn't go by her Father's last name instead of Noble. Not that it matters in the long run, but curious nonetheless.

Not surprising but still cool we got confirmation.

I wonder if they will acknowledge that Rose is transgender in the show since Yasmin is in real life?…

Not that it matters but just curious.

Did anyone not think this was not the case? It seemed pretty obvious to me.

Curious to see if they make a big deal of her being trans or not
