ARROW Star David Ramsey Reacts To JUSTICE U Cancelation And Reflects On Nearly Becoming Green Arrow

Following the news that Arrow spin-off Justice U has been scrapped by The CW, Diggle actor David Ramsey has spoken out about both the show's cancellation and how he nearly became the Arrowverse's Green Lantern.

With The CW undergoing major changes since being acquired by Nexstar, there's no longer a place for the Arrowverse on the network. Superman & Lois and Gotham Knights are both on the bubble, with only one likely to be saved (and neither is set in that reality).

The Flash was always going to conclude this year, of course, but it was recently revealed that the plug has been pulled on Justice U. The spin-off series was set to star Arrow's David Ramsey as John Diggle, with Spartan embarking on a new mission to recruit five young metahumans to live undercover as freshmen at a prestigious university

It's an intriguing, albeit strange, premise and one that the actor is understandably disappointed not to be able to share with the world.

"[The] CW decided to pass on all their shows in development. Justice U was one of them," Ramsey recently told The Cosmic Circus"Would it have been great? Of course, I think Diggle has a lot of story left, Lantern ring or not. But again, there is Superman and Lois, which again CW hasn’t made a decision on. A version of John Diggle exists within that mythos. We’ll see what happens there."

Asked if he could divulge which metahumans Diggle was going to take under his wing, the actor added, "There were a few but I’m still not at liberty to talk about that. And the reason why is because it belongs to Warner Bros...I know what CW decided to do, but I don’t know what Warner Brothers is gonna do."

Elsewhere in the conversation, Ramsey reflected on almost becoming the Arrowverse's Green Lantern. Early plans called for him to be revealed as a new version of John Stewart, but with a Green Lantern movie and TV show in the works (which have since combined to become Max's Lanterns), the idea was scrapped.

"I think we successfully teased it for a number of years," Ramsey says. "The fans were expecting something. And I think, you know, there are a lot of reasons why things don’t happen. There are so many things above my pay grade that happened, that you will never know, that happened behind closed doors. And that’s fine."

"It would have been great to put on the ring, and put my feet into the boots of John Stewart."

While it's possible we'll see Diggle again in Superman & Lois, it feels a lot like the character's story has reached its end. That's a shame, but at least he got to go out on a high following a recent cameo in The Flash's final season.

I think you need to fix the title. The description and article itself talk about him nearly becoming green lantern, but the title says he nearly became the green arrow.

Whilst I would be curious to see who/what the metahuman kids were, overall I can't say I'm bothered that this has been cancelled...
I would have preferred to have seen Diggle ring up and become a Green Lantern... such a wasted opportunity!

@DevilsDreams - lol it doesn’t matter. We all know they were going to be some weird gen-z version of known DC characters that are nothing like the source material outside of their names.

Arrowverse being taken out back behind the shed is the best thing to come out of this new DC restructuring. I get that that it had its fans, but man.. those shows were all just so bad 😂. Acting, writing, SFX, production, everything. Not everything needs to be set in the new DCU, but this shared world needed to go.

Superman and Lois has a lot of potential though, I hope they continue it on Max with some better writing.

What a waste of a character. They kept teasing something big for him then doing absolutely nothing with the teases.

Pretty disappointing they wasted the Lantern plot for him.
