ARROW Star Stephen Amell Believes DCU "[Needs Arrowverse Actors] A Lot More Than We Need Them"

Arrow star Stephen Amell has shared his thoughts on DC Studios potentially recasting Green Arrow, sharing his belief that the DCEU has long sent "mixed messages" to the Arrowverse's actors. Check it out!

Following the recent conclusion of The Flash on The CW, the Arrowverse is no more. Arrow ended in 2020, while Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow were cancelled last year much to the disappointment of many fans.

We don't anticipate the Arrowverse ever being revisited, especially as DC Studios plans to create a slate of movies and TV shows all set in the same DCU. Some DCEU actors will reprise their roles in that world and we don't anticipate Stephen Amell, for example, being given the chance to play Green Arrow again.

During a recent Whatnot autograph signing, he was actually asked how he feels about another actor picking up where he left off.

"I don’t know, man. I don’t know. Those guys, the DCEU, they need to decide if they think that they’re better than television or if they want to participate," Amell responded. "Because I get mixed messages, which to me just signals that, I don’t know. You guys do your own thing. We did our thing."

"I wish everyone nothing but the best. I want nothing more than amazing movies, but right now, they need us a lot more than we need them."

Warner Bros. has never treated these Arrowverse actors very well and various stars from The CW's TV shows have expressed disappointment about not being asked to suit up in big screen projects like Justice League and Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey

Despite that, Amell remains supportive of whoever is next to wield the Emerald Archer's bow and arrow.

"There will be another Oliver Queen. There will and it'll be new and cool and exciting and however much the internet hates it is probably a direct indication as to how good it's going to be."

"Very, very smart people think long and hard about how they're going to go about this, and I'm sure that whoever they pick, if in fact they do, maybe they don't care about the character, I don't know, will do an amazing job."

It would be fun to see Amell join the DCU, but it appears his time as part of this comic book franchise has reached its end. A fresh start for the entire DCU would be best, though DC Studios has sent mixed messages on that front by recasting some characters and keeping others.

Nobody needs your Z list little show. Acting was pathetic, scripts were garbage, the budget was on par with that of a school play. And you think the movie side of things owes you something? Delusional. Count your blessings and keep your mouth shut.

@rebellion - Arrow was on for almost a decade, spawned its own universe and had multiple successful spinoffs. In my opinion, Arrow did pretty good for itself.

@WruceBayne - ...and eventually cw bled the money and was sold for nothing

@rebellion - Half of them put together made up around a billion of revenue for WB back when they did their first massive crossover while DCEU delivered epic duds like BvS and Suicide Squad in the same year and could not even break even in the box office. The sell has zero of the network has absolute zero to do with what they accomplished. Talk about missing apples with oranges in your response.

@NinnesMBC - buddy, you can yap about revenue all you want, it doesnt mean sH&t if you don't consider operating costs. cw never made profit. not since 2006, when it was formed. their shows were cheap looking crap. but you do you.

The Arrowverse did hold the baton for DC characters for over a decade while their movie side fell flat on their faces with their asses sticking up in the air. A lot of people are now DC fans because of him and the others working on those shows. Now the showrunners and writers really dropped the ball these last few yeas but in it's glory days it was the best comic stuff around besides the MCU.

He had a lot of love and respect for his character and the world he started so he is still passionate about it and I respect that a ton.

@WarMonkey - Them holding the baton wasn’t enough for the fans they got to make the DC movies hits though.

He ain’t wrong. The shows were far from perfect but they had more good days than bad and managed what the DC movies couldn’t. Plus Crisis on Infinite Earths is endlessly enjoyable as a multiverse story, only Spiderverse has (and probably will) do it better

@Twenty23Three - Idk man, the Routh Superman and live action Conroy stuff was fun, but I gotta believe that such a low bar can be passed lol

I remember 2017 when the justice league movie came out and was thrashed by Thor Ragnarok in the big screens.During that time in the small screen they did the first big crossover of all the CW shows and it was a way greater experience ,story and acting than what we saw in the cinema....so yes I understand where S Amell is coming from. ...and the following year the MCU brought infinity war and truly showed what a big universe coming together is supposed to look like.

I like Amell and have a lot of respect for him, but he’s delusional if he thinks that’s the case.

Of course when you have to do 22 episodes each season, there's gonna be some crappy ones. Also the budget for a TV show, specially on CW Network, was never ever gonna be even in the shadows of movies' budget.

But when you look at what Arrowverse did with DC characters and what DCEU did, Arrowverse is by far a clear winner. Just look at Crisis on Infinite Earths five part series and it's the best any DC story has been told in live action media since The Dark Knight trilogy.

Heck, that little series was actually comparable to MCU, which clearly lost a lot of respect in many fans' eyes with illogical time travel shenanigans and making Thanos the dumbest villain in the history of comic book movies.

@TheOtherOn - There are maybe 3 arrowverse actors that would be able to give passable performances in a movie. Yes they pulled off having a bunch of people in costumes on screen, but what about the actual quality of that work? It was crappy network tv man.

He likely won't be in the DCU and to be honest I'm okay with that. It's true that the DCU is already sending mixed messages with the cherry picking Gunn has been doing regarding who stays and who doesn't, which hasn't earned him favours. Amell and his peers left a good legacy with the first successful and interconnected live-action DC universe and they even spread it to a Multiverse with TV budget. That's impressive.

The Arrowverse is a very successful live-action DC franchise that developed many things out from the comics & kept the spirit of the lore in it. From how metahumans were actually born to the crossovers. IMO they deserve to live on through the DC Elseworlds label because that’s what they were.

They all carried live action DCTV for an entire decade and right now there exists a vacant spot in DCTV thanks to half of all those mindless cancellations (Batwoman, LoT, STARGIRL etc) so in my mind the least that can be done is revive them in the Elseworlds label & let them continue their stories from where they were left off. All these shows & characters build up their audiences & connected with them through the years. The coexistence between DCTV & DC films could still go on, if Gunn is smart enough to see it.

All that we have consumed these years have been Elseworlds and if they were given the chance to keep telling stories with now a bigger budget, it'd be pretty great. Saving up that corner only for specific movies Zaslav believes will give him the profit he thinks he can get out from 2 Batmen is bound to backfire one way or the other, sooner or later.

I and countless others grew up in the last 10 years with DCTV and it's because of them that I became more of a DC fan. The facts are literally there.
