The SAG-AFTRA strike officially kicked-off a couple of weeks ago, and is not expected to end anytime soon. We have heard from several high-profile figures who have spoken out in support of actors campaigning for what they consider to be a fair wage, but not everyone feels the strike is the best course of action.
Stephen Amell, who will be best known for playing Oliver Queen in The CW's Arrow and can currently be seen in Starz wrestling drama Heels, was asked about the strike during an appearance at Galaxycon in Raleigh, NC.
“I support my union, I do, and I stand with them, but I do not support striking, I don’t. I think it is a reductive negotiating tactic, and I find the entire thing incredibly frustrating. And I think the thinking as it pertains to shows like the show that I’m on [Heels], that premiered last night, I think it’s myopic.”
Amell's comments have understandably led to quite a bit of backlash, with many claiming that if he really did support his union, he would also be in favor of the strike.
The SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes have certainly caused a lot of disruption, and must be frustrating for those who want to continue to work on and promote their respective film and TV projects, but if you're behind your union, you should back whatever decision they make.
Sony Pictures recently became the first major studio to delay several of its upcoming releases, but more are sure to come.
