Caity Lotz Talks LEGENDS OF TOMORROW And White Canary

Will the White Canary have any discernible differences from the Canary? What should CW DCTV fans expect from Legends of Tomorrow? Caity Lotz says the show is much bigger than anything she initially imagined.

Is the White Canary any different from the Canary Arrow viewers saw during season 2 and 3 of Arrow? Caity Lotz confirms that Sara Lance's new crime fighting alter ego will still be martial arts based. The only significant change Lotz said is that she'll be fighting with escrima sticks rather than a bō staff.  In terms of the actual show, Lotz stated that the scope of Legends of Tomorrow is much bigger than anything she initially invisioned.  "It's going to be big.  I did not really know much about the show [initially] but I said 'I want to do it, I trust you guys.'  And when we were shooting our teaser, they were telling me some of the stuff that's going to be happening and I was like 'This is way cooler - not that I didn't think it would be cool...but the stuff [happening],  I wasn't imagining or picturing [that].  It's going to be really fun to shoot and I think people are going to like it."

In DC Comics lore, White Canary is a character first created by Gail Simone and Ed Benes in Birds of Prey back in 2010. Little is known about her back story other than the fact that she is the lone sister of the Twelve Brothers in Silk and a proficient martial artist, equal to Lady Shiva in skill. Obviously, Arrow is going a different direction with the character and it will be interesting to see whether the DC "You" looks to retcon White Canary's origin for more synergy with the show.

Legends of Tomorrow is expected to air this December/January during the mid-season hiatus of Arrow and The Flash.

Oh, hey, first!

In all seriousness, Caity had an irreplaceable presence in Arrow, not to mention her skills as a dancer/fighter are admirable (and slightly underutilized in Arrow if you asked me). She was just so much fun to look at. I'm glad she's back.

She's hot. Very attractive, but the chick's tits are not that big, why they give her the over-dramatic push up bra frustrates me. It makes her look as if she has no neck.

Didn't like her as Black Canary, I think Laurel is better Canary but I am loving her White Canary, she looks great.

Ever since I started following her on Instagram, I've totally fallen in love with her.
Still, I'm hoping the Lazarus Pit had some long term effect on Sarah. It hasn't don't anything to Thea so far and they stressed that it would.

@DavidGray

I have to agree. She truly held her own when she was on screen, stunts in all. I wouldn't be surprised if her Character White Canary turns in to something that is so liked that it's would come mainstream in the books. I know there is already a White Canary already establish with little history known about her but this might be another Harley Quinn/Bruce Timm in the making.

@James99201

Laurel has gotten better but it still bugs me when I still see her on screen. I sometimes tell myself, "Take the NightStick away, and she would be Dead". I'm so use to the Dinah name though Laurel is her middle name but WHY??????? Black Canary is one of the TOP female fighters in the DC Universe. I'm going to have to give her some more time though.

Laurel. She can somehow take on 3 league of assassins members with a Damn nightstick? Ugh.

OMG guise, fricking @Shazam has my back! COME AT ME NOW BRO!

I never would've thought about the HQ/Bruce Timm analogy, that might be cool.

But I'm seriously hoping they get some cues from shows like Daredevil in the stunt department. Has anybody looked Caity up in Youtube? The things she can do are insane, the choreographers (and directors) should showcase her skills a bit more. Maybe with longer shots, and more carefully crafted choreographs.

Bro, I knew about Caity before Arrow and I was very glad she's expanded her career. She got Mad skills! Also, I agree on the stunt choreograph used in DareDevil. Just imagine how Iron Fist will be?? That is the one that will blow everyone out the water..TRUST ME! Looking forward to Caity showcasing her skills in this new series coming in 2016. Can't wait!

I personally don't like how they went with the name White Canary. In the comics White Canary is Chinese and said to be a better fighter then Lady Shiva. I would have enjoyed getting to see team Arrow having to take her down. I know it's not true white washing, but in a way it feels that way.
MisterSuperior

@DavidGray

If you want to talk about underutilized, just look at Michael Jai White. I bet he could've choreographed far more impressive Arrow/Bronze Tiger sequences. Shame what we did see on the series because as soon as MJW was cast as BT, I was just imagining how amazing those fight scenes could have been.
MisterSuperior

@BlackIceJoe

I'd say it was more common sense than just "white washing". To use White Canary, it would be essential to use the Twelve Brothers in Silk as well and I think it just made more sense in making White Canary as just the previous Canary character before Laurel became Black Canary as BC was not a legacy anymore since it were just sisters. To really get into that real WC character and her past, I don't think you could have done it justice when the show is centered on Green Arrow and not so much as BC.

WinterOstritch - 5/25/2015, 9:33 AM
@BlackIceJoe in all honesty, this is one of the few cases where I don't mind white washing. The White canary had a weird, zodiac based origin, barely had devolpent, and honestly felt like Shiva 2.0. Gail Simone, the creator, has also shown support for the casting.

That being said, if lady shiva doesn't appear in Arrow, [frick] that show for not giving us Shiva but giving us a season of a washed down Ras

@BlackIceJoe

Well, if you're gonna whitewash a character, might as well be one with "White" in the name.

Plus, what @MisterSuperior said about it making sense.

Btw, I've only seen MJW in The Dark Knight (other than Arrow of course), so I had no idea he had skills. It's a shame!

lmfao @AbhiShake are you serious. Caity Lotz was a way better Black Canary then Katie Cassidy.

A cleft chin on a woman is just a major turnoff for me. Never really cared for her as BC, though she did pull off the action scenes better than Cassidy does.

Loved her as Black Canary, hate Laurel as anything. I hope this works out because I like Lotz and Routh, but this show looks like a complete mess.

@Mego
Comparing "Arrow" to "Dallas" is literally apples to oranges.

You watch something like All My Children and yeah it's a show based on reality...like reality reality...nobody has powers, problems are more interpersonal rather than intergalactic, yadda yadda. So yeah, bringing "Blake" back from the dead seems cheesy when there's no GH325 or Lazarus Pit or whatever.

But it's clearly not the same in comic shows -based on the respective book. Death and resurrection is a comic book staple...thusly, it's treated differently than a conventional soap opera retcon by it's audience.

Hell, it's almost expected at this point that someone will die and then be brought back in a major comic arc.

Hell, GA himself has died at least twice in the comics that I can think of...

Powers, Time-Travel, Resurrection - Those are the comic holy trinity. Don't believe me, find me a major arc (of any company) that doesn't revolve around some sort of combination of the three.

Why would the shows, that follow the comics to varying degree not include one of the most common elements of the comic world to create?

I dunno, seems like a really weird complaint considering the subject matter.
