Following the news that a Black Lightning series was in the works, THR reports that Fox has given a pilot production commitment to the show, which will be produced by Greg Berlanti, and The Game's Salim and Mara Brock Akil. Black Lightning would be added to the network's roster of DC TV projects, which currently consists of Gotham and Lucifer.

Provided this is picked up, Jefferson Pierce would be the first African-American superhero to lead a network TV show - though of course, Netflix does have Luke Cage premiering towards the end of the month.

The Akils and Berlanti will also write the pilot, along with the latter's producing partner, Sarah Schechter.

"Black Lightning centers on Jefferson Pierce. He made his choice: he hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with a daughter hell-bent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend — Black Lightning."

So no connection to the DCTV Universe?

@jumpingtheshark - Looks like The CW has the monopoly on that for now

@jumpingtheshark - they could always do Flash crossovers if they work things out

@eagc1995 - Fox is a harder sell than CBS, since CW is co-owned by the latter, but I'm sure Black Lightning will appear on the CW after his show is canceled like Constantine does.

@RorMachine - I have a feeling they will connect at some point in time. The DCTV Universe is severely lacking in color, and adding Black Lightning to the mix would be the best idea. They did it with Supergirl and Flash, so a multiple network crossover isn't impossible for Berlanti.

@RorMachine -
The link for THR is wrong. Instead of linking to the source, it just goes to another Comicbookmovie page.
