David Mazouz Confirms That The Joker Is Finally Coming To GOTHAM (And It Won't Be Jerome)

There have been rumblings about The Joker coming to Gotham for years and the prevailing theory is that Jerome will transform into the iconic villain. Well, he's coming to the series but not as Jerome 2.0.

Jerome's story arc on Gotham has been bizarre to say the least and while the signs have all been pointing to him becoming The Joker, we now know that's not the case. In the video below, David Mazouz - who plays Bruce Wayne - reveals that the Clown Prince of Crime is on the way and that the way he's going to be introduced promises to be something fans of the show will definitely appreciate.

"He’s not the Joker, that’s all I’ll say," Mazouz says in regards to Cameron Monaghan's character. "He definitely is the inspiration for the Joker and the way that the Joker comes into the show is, in my opinion, one of the most brilliant things that Gotham has ever done." It seems The Joker will base himself on Jerome as opposed to being transformed after a battle with Batman in ACE Chemicals.

This news really shouldn't come as a surprise, though, especially when Gotham stopped following the comic books a long time ago. It's no longer a prequel to Bruce Wayne becoming Batman as such and is instead very much its own thing. Are you excited for The Joker's arrival? Share your thoughts below.

"Well, he's coming to the series but not as Jerome 2.0."
"He definitely is the inspiration for the Joker"

So he is a Jerome 2.0, a copycat of the original.

Even when this show gets something right it decides to throw it in the trash and replace it. If it is no longer a prequel, then why not keep Jerome as the Joker instead of getting rid of him for a new Joker doing the exact same thing.

@Scarilian - This would be a really lame move by them. Joker is not a copycat or a character inspired from someone else. This will annoy me.

I'm just hoping and praying they're playing "dumb" with the audience. Like, Jerome isn't the Joker per se, but he will become the Joker soon.

@KWilly - That's what I AM hoping. Jerome is one of the best things about Gotham. They'll just replace him with a worse actor.

@KWilly - I hope so too.

This makes no sense! Jerome was obviously originally meant to be Joker. He had the same personality and plots, faceless Joker plot being an example. The actor was clearly made to believe he was playing the Joker too. He was comparing Mark Hamill's performance to his own performance of "the character". Additionally, now the real Joker in the Gotham universe will be nothing more than a pathetic copycat.

Aside from anything, Jerome is a great Joker and fan response has been majority positive. It would be nearly impossible to replace him with a TV budget.

Also, Cameron Monaghan, the actor who plays Jerome tweeted: "A person can be not something, but also not NOT something." Hopefully that means he is the Joker in some respect.

Omg just do a time jump. Have a season that takes place years later.

This season would have to end up showing how the police and the "masked Bruce" chase Jerome to corner him in Ace Chemicals and Jerome ends up in a toxic waste bath due to the fight. And in a post-credit scene, take a look at the joker.

They just have to do a flash forward and let Joker Jerome do his own hilarious rendition of "I can't stop laughing"

This is outdated news. This happened before Suicide Squad came out. They killed him off and showed that someone in the crowd watching the feed was inspired to become the Joker. Then Suicide Squad came out and most everyone (not me) hated that Joker, Whiley everyone (including me) liked Jerome much better. That’s when they brought him back to life.

@Manmarvel - You enjoyed letos joker. Wow. I'm speechless that you enjoyed that gutter trash excuse of a performance. It was so cringe inducing it turned my stomach from watching. To each there own though.

@DarthMoose - lol I watched it in context. I think there was a director/story issue. I’m not a die hard Leto fan either. I would have much preferred Dafoe. Would have fit better with Benman’s age. But Leto was dedicated to it and was equally upset with the finished product. They should have made him the main villain and toned down the tattoos and teeth. But he had great potential to show an unseen version of the Joker.

@Manmarvel - Honestly I was looking forward to him as the joker, and I was willing to forgive the look if the performance was good, but here we are.

@Manmarvel - And dafoe would have been perfect. I wonder if they ever talked about casting him. It's a no brainer. Dafoe was great green goblin but I think he would have crushed they joker.
Manmarvel

@DarthMoose - amen. I feel that they were to concerned with how the joker and Harley would look together. I feel like the age gap would have only made his ability to have such control over her more compelling. While making way for a Bats and joker have been at this for a very long time feel.

@BeeMo - Bruce wore the costume once or twice and then threw it away. It has barely made an appearance in season 4 so far.
