In news which shouldn't come as much of a shock to anyone, The CW has cancelled Gotham Knights after just one season.
The DC Comics-based series, which focused on Bruce Wayne's adopted son forging an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman’s enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader, was the subject of ridicule since its very first teaser trailer, and premiered to negative reviews (it's sitting at 23% on Rotten Tomatoes) back in March.
The writing was on the wall when James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as co-CEOs of the newly implemented DC Studios, and the trades have now confirmed that Gotham Knights will finish its run with episodes on June 20 and 27.
A little more surprising given the show's hefty price-tag, the much more popular Superman and Lois will return for a fourth season, but it will be for a shorter-than-usual run (10 episodes instead of 13).
Superman and Lois was the second most watched show on The CW in 2022-23, but it's also among the more expensive projects on the network, and with new owners Nexstar attempting to reduce costs to make The CW more profitable, we'd say there's a good chance this fourth season will be its last.
For many, Superman and Lois, which stars Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch in the title roles, is among the best interpretations of these iconic characters we've seen in live-action, and is a cut above anything else The CW has produced.
