Fox May Be Considering A GOTHAM Spin-Off

As the age of shared universes continues to push forward, Fox's current 'Batman' prequel may be the next to receive the franchise treatment. It seems that the pre-hero DC Universe may have been larger than we once thought.

From the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the DC Extended Universe, gone are the days of the standalone project, at least where comic book adaptations are concerned. For better or for worse, the fan community is engrained in the era of the shared universe, a trend it seems that not even Gotham could escape. The Fox television series serves as a prequel to the age-old Batman mythos and, up to this point, the series has sustained itself without the aid of other franchises. However, that may be about to change.

While attending a Television Critics Association press tour, Fox chairman and CEO Gary Newman revealed that Fox is willing to consider expanding the world of Gotham with new projects and television spin-offs.

"We're really happy with the creative on Gotham this year. We thought the Rise of the Villains has been great, and it feels like a world that has many, many stories to tell. We haven't had any conversations with Warner [Brothers] about whether or not they'd want to do a spin-off series. I think that would be an issue for DC. It isn't quite clear to me that they'd be ready to do that, but it's a good idea."

Gotham features a large variety of characters from the DC Universe, ranging from future caped crusaders to super-villains, so whom a spin-off would feature is anyone's guess. A Fox television series starring the Question or the Spectre would perhaps be the most obvious choices, considering that Renee Montoya and Crispus Allen were both series regulars in Gotham's first season.

Gotham: Rise of the Villains will return with all new episodes 29 February 2016. Stay tuned for further news as it develops.

I would love to have a Riddler Spin off crime show or thriller similar to The Following or Dexter that would be good.

Mind you, I still really enjoy Gotham. I'd love it even more if it actually took place in the Arrowverse, but 18-20 years in the past.

The only DC character that i could see fit with Gotham is The Question.
That would be dope IMO.

This season of Gotham has been really good. Pitty that we have a weakling Bruce tho.

@TheLemsterPju

I was referring to the Crispus Allen verison of the Spectre, not Jim Corrigan. Crispus Allen was a series regular in the first season of GOTHAM.

Personally, I hope they do a spin-off with the Question, though I'd prefer the classic Question (even though a spin-off would probably have Renee Montoya). I wouldn't mind seeing a Question show on the CW if this never happens on Fox.

@AlaRebeIde

Well, a Spectre series could work, but the Question would be the best choice.

Question.

If it doesn't happen, then idk what they are thinking.

@Darkknight2149 my thing is that there has not been magical elements in Gotham so far to pursue a magic based show like The Spectre, so the introduction of the element could affect the dynamic and nature of the main show.

The Question could fit better. Just my 2 cents.

@scorpo Question needs to happen.

IMO it makes more sense than an Agent of SHIELD spin off.

I'd watch a spin-off with Alfred during his war days before he was a butler.

I'm down for a Ra's Al Ghul series. Just get Alexander Siddig for him and cast his bodyguard Ubu as Marco Khan. You could have flashback scenes set 2000 years ago in the past too. I personally wanted those two actors for the DCEU movies, but I'd be okay with this if they can't be in the DCEU.

If they do a Spectre show it has to be with Corrigan.

There is no story here since Fox has not even talked to WB about doing another series. This is just a 'what if' on Fox television's part. They want a bigger share of the superhero pie that ABC and CW have to bring in the younger demographic.

Also, Fox also doesn't have the real estate that other networks have since they don't have a 10PM slot. CW is the same but I don't count that network since Berlanti, father of DCTV, pretty much owns the WB side of that network. But the limited real estate of the CW is the primary reason why Supergirl went to parent company CBS. If Supergirl had gone to the CW, 40% of that network would be superheroes. Anyhow, I can't see the WB wanting to give too much up to Fox that messes with their brand.

@AlaRebeIde

Well, they can always introduce magic in GOTHAM, even though they haven't already. However, I 100% see where you are coming from. Personally, I'd prefer the Question. I do hope they eventually introduce the character on GOTHAM or ARROW. I'd love to see a QUESTION series, preferably with the classic Question but I would also settle for Renee Montoya.

@AlphaMasterFlex

Actually, Renee Montoya and Crispus Allen were both series regulars in GOTHAM Season 1. And of course they would be set up in the actual show before they got their own spin-offs. They also don't need two full seasons of build up. The Flash in ARROW only needed two episodes before he got his series.

@thor2273

Unfortunately, Jim Corrigan has not appeared in the series. And if he does end up appearing, it will probably be just to kill Crispus Allen so that Allen can become the Spectre. If you want Corrigan as the Spectre, your best bet is the CW shows, where John Constantine currently is.

@String

Yes, there's a story here. We now know that Fox is 100% on board to have discussions with Warner Brothers to begin with.
