GOTHAM: First Official Promo Image Of Shane West's Bane Might Be The Weirdest Thing You See Today

Yesterday, one of Fox's producers made the mistake of releasing a set photo of Bane which was met with, well, ridicule. Will this official image receive a better response? Check it out after the jump...

Gotham has never really stuck to the comic books in terms of origin stories and the appearance of characters and it appears as if Bane will be no exception. While the set photo we saw yesterday made it clear that this version of the Batman villain will be a cross between the one we saw in The Dark Knight Rises and something totally new, this official promo image is, well, even weirder.

Shane West is playing the character and it's said that this version of Bane will be introduced as Eduardo Dorrance, a former Army friend of Jim Gordon's, who is gradually transformed into the supervillain. In this image, he's presumably already undergone that bizarre transformation.

It makes sense that Bane is pictured among fiery wreckage here because season five of Gotham is set to
adapt the "No Man's Land" storyline from the comic books in which Gotham City is isolated from the rest of the country by the United States government. It's also been reported that we'll get a "Break the Bat" moment when Bane attacks Alfred Pennyworth.

@n1Ro - as a fan of Gotham since season 1, this show has mad it insanely difficult to defend, at times like this, impossible. This is just god awful and completely unnecessary. With everything that needs to be done, all the ground that needs to be covered this season, adding Bane in the first place was just dumb and unnecessary, but to botch him this bad is just.... its disgusting.

Dat feel when you're no longer the worst Bane to exist.

@DevarikaWoulf - That is still the worst bane, that bane was only bane in name and appearence, other than that he was just a henchman, nothing else. This Bane is obviously going to be a treat and be more than just a strong guy, and will probably have plans of his own. On the design, it took a few hours, but it started to grow on me, yes it has very little similarities to the comic design, but the comic design while great, is very 80's and doesnt really fit the stylized 1940's to 60's aesthetic the show has had, although they probably should have found more of a middle ground between the original design and the steampunk look, cause yeah the only thing about the design that really resembles Bane's original look is the shape of the thing he is wearing over his mouth, but hopefully his personality is more comic accurate like TDKR, but without being down graded to being second in comand to someone like Bane was to Talia. Really the most important thing in the portrayal not the costume

If they were going to go with this design, they should have just left him alone. So far he is at least in contention to be the worst Bane ever.

@dracula @RolandD - But how hard is it to keep it simple for Bane look like the comic books?

The Dude looks like a luchador who's very strong and highly intelligent strategist.

When a cos-player looks better than Gotham's Cobra Commander

@BlindWedjat - to be fare, the comic book look doesnt really fit gothams style and even if it did, it could look silly in live action

@dracula - Silly is not sticking to the material they already have and spend money only to make it look like shit.

It would have been cheaper to have hired a strong looing dude and have him wear a cheap luchador mask.

They've got to recast or something and fix this.
They've still got time to reshoot at least.

Seriously. How hard is it to make a good looking Bane? I mean, you just need one beefed up guy with a mask and few tubes. You don't have to go with this steampunk shit.
dracula
dracula - 10/23/2018, 3:38 AM
@Demo2nd - it fits Gotham's style more, you know looking at the Gotham designs and the comic book bane design, the comic design doesnt really fit Gotham's style
Nightwing1015
Nightwing1015 - 10/23/2018, 4:14 AM
@dracula - All the other comic designs have fit Gotham's style just fine. But they've ruined this one. And I love the show.
dracula
dracula - 10/23/2018, 4:31 AM
@Nightwing1015 - Well a majority of the villains they use are from the 40's to the 60's, they fit Gotham's stylized 40's to 60's steampunk style, cause they are from that time. Bane has a very 1980's look, plus seriously is there anyway to do the luchador mask that wont look too silly in live action
