Fox's hit television series, Gotham, has been noted for often deviating from the source material and no change is more prevalent than James Gordon's physical appearance. Seeing as Gotham is a Batman prequel, it's understandable why Gordon has yet to grow the iconic mustache that is one of Gordon's most identifiable physical characteristics in the comics. While speaking at the Wizard World New Orleans convention, Ben McKenzie went into detail as to why we don't see the mustache in the series and when may eventually see it.

"I never asked if I had a mustache or not," McKenzie explained. "I just assumed that, being a younger guy, that was not going to happen. We're building towards the mustache. The mustache will come four, five or six seasons from now. Three? We'll talk about it."

Additionally, McKenzie revealed that Barbara Kean will be returning to the series. When we last saw Barbara, her character was suffering from mental illness and working for the villainous Theo Galavan. She ended up falling from a building and going into a coma. However, that coma won't be permanent. According to McKenzie, "She has not died. She's in a coma and in Gotham that means she's very much alive and she's coming back. [Gordon and Barbara] have a very complicated relationship which we've only really begun to explore and there's a lot more to come."

It's worth noting that a previous press release revealed that Gordon's romantic relationship with Leslie Tompkins will be coming to an end. Could Gordon end up in another relationship with Barbara? In the comics, Barbara and Gordon were in fact married and had two children together. Whether or not that will happen in Gotham is uncertain.

Gotham will return 29 February 2016, with all new episodes.

The stakes are higher than ever as GOTHAM explores the origin stories of some of the most ambitious and depraved Super Villains, including The Riddler, The Joker and Mr. Freeze, and Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) uncovers more secrets from his father’s past.
