UPDATE: JURASSIC WORLD's BD Wong Joins GOTHAM As 'Hugo Strange'

We've known the classic Batman villain was due to make an appearance on Fox's Gotham for a while, and now we know who'll be playing him. BD Wong (OZ, Jurassic World, Mr. Robot) will bring life to the sinister psychiatrist. UPDATE: Nora Fries has also been cast.

It seems we're about to get a small-screen incarnation of one of Batman's oldest foes on Gotham, as Comicbook.com reports that BD Wong (last seen in Jurassic World as Dr. Henry Wu) will portray Professor Hugo Strange on the show.

This take on the character is described as "a brilliant professor and psychiatrist tapped to head up Gotham City’s notorious Arkham Asylum. He’s hired to help the city’s criminally insane, but Strange has a nefarious streak as well." Apparently the good Doctor will be the one revealed to be conducting experiments on inmates with a view to creating supervillains for Indian Hill: the underground facility we saw Firefly (Michelle Veintimilla) taken to after her battle with the GCPD saw her engulfed in flames.

We're not sure which episode Wong will make his debut in, but it will be a recurring role. Gotham returns with "Mommy's Little Monster" next Monday on Fox.

UPDATE: Following the news that Nathan Darrow will play Mr. Freeze, Zap2it reports that Being Human actress Kristen Hager has been cast to play his terminally ill wife, Nora Fries.

Wow, looks like a bold casting choice, I was waiting for Hugo to show up, especially after last episode

This show has really grown on me, surprisingly

The only way Id be upset is if he doesnt have his trademark frames. Other than that, Wong is a great actor.

I just can't get into this show at all. I just don't care for these bullshit origins.

I feel the same way with Gotham as I did with Smallville where as a kid I just found Smallville so boring. "Who cares for Superman as a teen? Show him as Superman."

Besides Penguin and Gordon & Bullock, this show just doesn't work with me.

Course that's my opinion. You can have your own. Will admit, visually it may be the best comic book show with how they have Gotham very Burton influence while at the same time very Nolan influence. Like Gotham feels real but gothic and fantasy at the same time.

Has this show gotten better? I watched the first half of season 1 and never went back...

@LEVITIKUZ

Once you move past the source material, it's not a bad show

I could never get into Smallville, this show feels totally different to me than that, and it is totally different

Interesting. He should be good after playing a Criminal Psychologist on Law & Order SVU for years. This should be very interesting. Wong is very good, and can actually be kind of intimidating when given the right material. I look forward to this.

is Hugo the big brain behind Indian Hill?

@superdood

They've been hinting at a lot of different storylines, like The Order of St. Dumas and Azrael, possibly Jean-Paul Valley's father, which would be awesome to see on screen

I personally really like the show and think the second season has been great so far, but if you weren't hooked by the first half of season 1 then it's probably not for you.

They're re-making Ocean's Eleven with an all female cast starring Sandra Bullock. Somewhere, George Clooney is rolling Frank Sinatra around in his grave.

With Gotham my issue isn't the source material. It's how the writers, showrunners, and directors don't understand subtly. I mean there are so many facepalm moments. Yea have Dent have half his face covered. Have Nygma drink from a glass with a question mark. How Crane be afraid of Scarecrows. Have all the cat nods with Catwoman and Penguin jokes with Cobblepot.

I also feel the show would have been better if the show started with "Bruce Wayne is dead" as in he left Gotham to begin his training and we see how much worse the city has gotten. We have Jim Gordon as a single father raising a young daughter in Barbara.

How the [frick] will this show do Barbara? You [frick]ed up her mother so bad.

@blackandyellow dude it's awful. Hollywood is just a joke. How about creating original film ideas for women instead of having them just get sloppy seconds of a forgotten franchise??? Having it marketed as "female version" is actually insulting to the cast and not as progressive as everyone thinks.

I hear you, I feel like some of that has settled down in the 2nd season though, I actually really liked what they've been doing with The Riddler this season, we've never really seen Riddler like that on screen, other than video games, and Carrey, I think

If they started from scratch, I think the first season should have led up to Bruce's parents death, that would have been the last episode of the 1st season, and the season could have focussed on Gotham and the mobs, etc, I feel like it would have made more sense too, because they would have had more freedom to mess with the source without people knowing

But, they needed to promote they show, so that's why they through in all the references, etc, I feel like that has calmed down this season though, I did like the Green tinge in Riddler's apartment though

I hear you though, it's not for everybody, I'm actually surprised at how much I'm enjoying this season

Hmm Sony is doing a female Ghostbusters film. They want a female characters from Spider-Man in a team film. Ocean's Eleven with females film.

Me thinks there's a pattern. Take all well known properties, make them star women.

I'm sensing a female Bond film in the future from Sony.

Are there any other villains left? Geez they really should have paced themselves. And are they all going to take a crime hiatus when Bruce goes off to martial arts and vigilante college I mean because if they are STILL committing crimes at the point Batman arrives on the scene than Gordon has no right becoming a dentist no less a [frick]ing commissioner.

I read that as something along the lines of Wong being cast in Doctor Strange.

Alas, it was casting news for this atrocious show.
