5 Possible Villains of DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 2

SPOILERS FOR DC's LEGENDS OF TOMORROW season 1 and FLASH season 2 follow.

As the first season of DC's Legends of Tomorrow concluded last week, we were introduced to Rex Tyler, the first Hourman and a founding member of the Justice Society of America. The CW and Warner Bros also seem to be casting for Crimson Avenger and Commander Steel, both of whom have also been members of the Justice Society in recent years. Noting that, it's safe to assume that whoever the big bad of season 2 of Legends is going to have a history with the Justice Society in the comics.

So far that gives us the following Justice Society of America members:

Ted Grant/Wildcat – The first vigilante in Star City. Ted is either in a hospital or possibly even moved to a different city at the end of Arrow season 3.

Curtis Holt/Mr. Terrific – A member of Team Arrow in season 5, he has the Fair Play jacket and T-Spheres.

Jay Garrick/The Flash – The Flash of Earth 3 (The 1990 CBS Earth) and the Man in the Iron Mask being held by Zoom so he could impersonate him.

Helena Bertinelli/The HuntressShe is a vigilante created by Oliver to avenge her fiance after he was killed by her father. She was a big player in the first couple of seasons of Arrow and one of Marc Guggenheim's favorite DC characters.

Jim Corrigan/The Spectre A DC character that appeared in his pre-superhero form during the short lived Constantine series on NBC that is now part of the DC TV Universe. He is presumably in a relationship with Zedd and may not be the Spectre yet. If he appears, it would be a great way to introduce Zedd to the DCTV universe.

Hawkman and Hawkgirl Both series regulars on Legends of Tomorrow season 1 who will probably pop up at least a couple of times during Legends season 2.

Nabu/Dr Fate The spirit entity inhabiting the helmet of Nabu currently sitting in the mill house of Jasper Winters if it still exists from a story point of view in the DCTVU. If Constantine could appear in any Legends story this season, I could see it being related to the Doctor Fate helmet.

Rex Tyler/Hourman I already mentioned above he appeared in the season finale of Legends and we've seen his Hourglass on the Waverider. He will probably get his power from a heavily modified version of Mirakaru that will be in pill form and only last an hour at a time.

I know that I may have missed a couple and I didn't include Atom Smasher because he died, and Black Siren is currently evil. We also saw Dr. Midnite's smoke bombs and Sandman's mask, and Abigail Hunkel's cooking pot helmet in the Waverider and I think it is a safe bet they will appear in guest roles on the big Justice Society episodes. I also would have included Sgt. Rock, but the whole story with the helmet on the Waverider is very confusing and he may be dead if we already saw a younger version of him.

I dug through a bunch of issues of Time Masters: Vanishing Point (Legends of Tomorrow is loosely based on this comic series), JSA and my Pre-Flashpoint DC comics to come up with these ideas and I think one could possibly end up being right. So, without further ado, here are who I see as possible villains:

Exant – Hank Hall/Hawk/Monarch

A villain who was big threat during the events of DC's Zero Hour series in 1994 and was revealed at one point to be an alternate version Waverider (Matthew Ryder) who Rip Hunter's ship is named after. He was originally a hero named Hawk who had ties the Teen Titans and was in a relationship with a female hero named Dove. He later kills her and becomes the villain Monarch during the Armageddon event series. After that he merges with the hero Waverider and becomes Extant, decides to team with Parallax (Hal Jordan) to destroy the timestream and reshape it the way he sees fit. Given that he also appeared during Geoff John's JSA run and was instrumental in killing many of the Linear Men and Justice Society members, I personally think he is the most likely choice. I think it's even possibly that if we don't see anyone being cast before the season begins, I think he could end up being Carter Hall who turns evil after killing Kendra Saunders at an earlier or later point in history and decides to use a Time Master ship and technology to destroy the universe. I think Extant could also possibly be an evil version of Rip Hunter.

Supernova – Either Rip Hunter or Jonas Hunter

A superhero identity originally used by Booster Gold that was handed down to his 21st century ancestor Daniel Carter during the 52 series written by Geoff Johns. Supernova was also part of the Time Masters: Vanishing Point series that Legends of Tomorrow is based on, working with Rip Hunter to stop the Time Stealers. If he shows up, I think it will either be an evil version of Rip Hunter from the future or maybe even his son from a different timeline that Vandal Savage managed to hide the second time he was in 2166 (we never saw Jonas actually die).

Despero

He was initially a big Justice League villain with the ability to transform who eventually went on to fight the Justice Society and defeat them several times before being defeated by the stare of villain Johnny Sorrow. He was also convinced by Per Degaton to join the Time Stealers to create an alternate universe during Time Masters: Vanishing Point. Despero was actually teased on screen in the DEO base during the Supergirl pilot episode. Seeing as Supergirl takes place on an alternate Earth and the Arrow universe hasn't officially introduced aliens yet, I think he is the least likely on the list.

Onimar Synn

A demon from the Planet Thanagar who has control over a large collection the NTH Metal that gave Vandal Savage, Carter Hall, and Kendra Saunders their powers. He takes control of the Planet Thanagar and turns the Justice Society into zombies before Hawkman and Hawkgirl defeat him using the Claw of Horus (which on Arrow is the Eye of Horus given to Baron Reiter by Oliver Queen) The Legends of Tomorow showrunners have said they are not using Planet Thanagar during season 2 but that doesn't mean that Onimar Synn couldn't show up separately on his own as a spirit that escaped from an NTH Metal asteroid when it was destroyed. He was created by Geoff Johns during the JSA comics series.

Mordru

He is an energy being from the planet Cillia and is DC's Lord of Chaos. Mordru has a long history with the Justice Society members and has tried to steal the power of Doctor Fate multiple times and has stolen the source of Alan Scott's power, Starheart. He defeated the JSA and Nabu and before being defeated by Johnny Thunderbolt, sending him to a void where nobody would ever see him again. Given his battles with the Justice Society, I think he could be the main villain but they would have to change his appearance because he looks a lot like Vandal Savage in recent comics. But given that he is an energy being that can possess anyone, I guess they could make him look however they want.

I'm guessing Legends of Tomorrow is going to premiere at the latest October 13th, 2016 so there are 140 days to go. We will probably know more in a month and a half at Comic-Con including a date and villain.

Those are my thoughts on the villain for the next season of Legends of Tomorrow. I hope you enjoyed reading it, I enjoyed writing it.

Good article, this show clicked for me from the beginning.
Although the season did feel a bit stretched out to me.
Nice suggestions.

@SimplyAz - All of these network superhero shows suffer from too many episodes per season. I really wish they would split them all into a fall season and a spring season. Complete 1 story arc in the fall, 1 in the spring. There would be less throw-away villains, and less filler. Story arcs would be shirt, focused and to the point. New series could premier in winter season break like Agent Carter did, and then follow suit the following fall. They could keep the filming schedule the same if they need to.

@TomSolo - I would love that Idea.

@SimplyAz - Thanks man. I know it will never happen due to a number of reasons, but I wish it would. I mean, would season 4 of Arrow have sucked as much if they could cut out all the nonsense and focused on a few solid plot points? Would the Flash have more to say story-wise if it didn't have to do the "villain/hero of the week" thing to fill out all these episodes and keep the show visually and could they then expand on other villains in later seasons as more main characters? I hope so. As for LoT, I enjoyed some of it, but felt a good 10 or twelve episodes only would have made the show stronger.

@TomSolo -

Quality over quantity every time.
I wish a lot of shows would get to the point and stop with the unnecessary stuff.
It's whay causes me to stop watching some shows as I get bored.

You are forgetting the possibility of Melissa Benoist as Power Girl for the JSA rooster!
