SUPERGIRL: Is General Zod Coming To National City?

If a recent report about the Supergirl season finale is to be believed, one of Superman's greatest foes may be returning to the small screen much sooner than you might've expected. Come take a look!

Get ready to kneel because Bleeding Cool is reporting that Supergirl season two has cast Mark Gibbon as the notorious Superman villain General Zod. The Canadian actor has started filming scenes and is expected to make his debut in the season finale, which is currently in production and set to air May 22.

Now, considering that The CW has made no official statement on the matter, it's probably best to label it as a rumor for the time being. However, if we look at what we already know about the second season finale, the report does seemingly line up with what we've been told as he's expected to make his debut in an episode that's been confirmed to feature the return of Tyler Hoechlin as Kara's super cousin.

It's conceivable that the show is setting up Zod as the main villain of season three and that Superman's return will have more to do with recapturing the Kryptonian general rather than with whatever Rhea has cooked up. Another possibility is that Rhea's master plan may be to actually release Zod from the Phantom Zone, although that's probably unlikely with the contempt she's shown for Kara's Kryptonian heritage.

Gibbon is plenty familiar with the superhero genre and with Superman lore especially, having worked on four episodes of Smallville and having played Roughneck in 2013's Man of Steel. He has also lent his voice to episodes of Spider-Man: Unlimited and X-Men: Evolution and has appeared in several genre films, including The Chronicles of Riddick, Underworld: Awakening, and The 6th Day

So, if this proves to be true, what do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

The hour-long drama centers on Kara Zor-El, Superman's cousin, who was born on the planet Krypton and escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she has been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

Supergirl features:
Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl
Mehcad Brooks as James 'Jimmy' Olsen
Chyler Leigh as Alexandra 'Alex' Danvers
Jeremy Jordan as Winslow 'Winn' Schott
David Harewood as J'onn J'onzz/Martian Manhunter
Helen Slater as Dr. Eliza Danvers
Dean Cain as Jeremiah Danvers
Floriana Lima as Maggie Sawyer
Chris Wood as Mon-El
Ian Gomez as Snapper Carr
Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor
Lynda Carter as President Olivia Marsdin
Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent/Superman

I heard about it yesterday. That'd pretty cool.

Here's hoping it is true and if not then whatever they're cooking for the finale comes close to this.

It's one hell of a scoop if it turns out to be true.

I'm not too familiar with the show... but why not have Zor-El instead and do a plotline where its revealed her father was actually not as perfect as she thinks he was - have him be a recurring villain.
