The CW has released the first official key art for the fourth and final season of Superman and Lois, while revealing (or at least, strongly implying) that the trailer will follow at some point tomorrow.

The stylish poster features the Man of Steel's tattered red cape floating through space.

The writing was on the wall when the news broke that James Gunn and Peter Safran had taken over as co-heads of the new DCU, and The CW announced that the popular DC Comics-based drama would finish up after season 4 late last year.

Superman and Lois concluding its run marks the end of an era for the Greg Berlanti-produced Arrowverse (or CWverse, if you prefer) that began with Arrow back in 2012.

“Over the last three seasons, Superman & Lois redefined both the superhero genre and family drama as Tyler, Elizabeth and the entire cast effortlessly portrayed these classic characters with new layers of depth and complexity that had never before been explored in the Superman universe,” said Brad Schwartz, president of entertainment at The CW last November. “We are grateful for the years of hard work and graceful storytelling from the show’s writers, producers, actors and crew, as well as our terrific partners at Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions. As Superman embarks on his final flight, the team is leaving us with an absolutely epic 10-episode must-watch-every-minute farewell to one of the most legendary CW families ever.”

“While we’re sad to say goodbye to Superman & Lois at the end of season four, we’re grateful for the time we’ve had with our amazing cast, crew, vfx teams, editors, musical geniuses, and writers. Since the day this show was first discussed, it was about family. And that’s what was created — on and off screen,” added executive producers and co-showrunners Todd Helbing and Brent Fletcher. “We’d like to thank our partners at Berlanti Productions, DC, WB and The CW for their endless support and enthusiasm during this journey…and give a very special thank you to all the fans for tuning in. We’re thrilled about what we have in store in our final season, and can’t wait for everyone to watch as Superman, Lois and all our heroes face off against the biggest threat in the show’s history — Lex Luthor.”

Only four of the 12 Season 3 series regulars, Tyler Hoechlin, Elizabeth Tulloch, Michael Bishop and Alex Garfin, have been confirmed to return for Season 4.

Superman and Lois returns for a special feature length premiere on Thursday, October 17 at 8pm ET/10pm PT.

@dracula - speaking of, kyle has been on a redemption arc. Might be a bit late now but i always pictured him as kyle raynor. He may not be a drawing artist but he is a musician so that could be the twist on the take.

Can't wait for this awful show to be canceled along with the My Adventures show.

Gunn will save Superman from this crap. In Gunn we trust.
BIGBMH
BIGBMH - 7/18/2024, 2:15 PM
@HermanM - Let's not start this crap. The Snyder trolls are finally starting to die down. We don't need Gunn trolls. You can support and be excited for the projects that interest you without going out of your way to act obnoxiously towards the things that don't.
HermanM
HermanM - 7/18/2024, 2:48 PM
@BIGBMH - , OK, but I'm not excited for it all. The CW, MAWS, and snyderverse all suck. Everything pre Gunn has been abysmal these last 13 years. I'm glad it is ending.
BIGBMH
BIGBMH - 7/18/2024, 4:45 PM
@HermanM - No one said you had to be excited for it. You're fully entitled to not like things. However, it becomes trollish when you go out of your way to click on articles about a thing you don't like or care about just to express how much you don't like or care about them. No one is forcing these shows on you. You're choosing to engage, making them a bigger part of your life than they need to be.

I also don't understand the mindset of looking forward to the end of a thing you're not watching. Again, they're not being forced on you, so them continuing doesn't really affect your life. You're essentially just celebrating the fact that those who enjoy the series will no longer be able to enjoy it and those who work on it are out of a job.
HermanM
HermanM - 7/18/2024, 5:27 PM
@BIGBMH - Yes, I am celebrating the end of the bastardization of a character that I like that is important to me. That's why I comment voicing my dislike of the show and my anticipation of its ending, because they are a bad representation of Superman. Simple as.
Dabs

@HermanM - How do you get through the day with so much disappointment in your life?
HermanM
HermanM - 7/18/2024, 7:52 PM
@Dabs - disappointment would be if the show was getting another season.

@HermanM -

On this, we agree.
BIGBMH
BIGBMH - 7/19/2024, 2:07 PM
@HermanM - Bastardization is so dramatic. Do they go against the values the character represents or actively damage the character's standing in pop culture? No. For a number of fans, Tyler's Superman has resonated with them in a way no adaptation has in a long time. As for My Adventures, I've seen people coming to like the character for the first time because of that show, making it a gateway to appreciating more Superman media. Especially in the wake of films that many feel missed the essential qualities of the character, I believe this pair of shows have done much more good for the character than harm.

If all you're upset about is the quality of their execution, idk how you survive as a Superman fan or a comic book fan in general. A spectrum of quality and sensibilities is par for the course. I'm a Batman fan, but I didn't watch Gotham because it didn't appeal to me. Yet, I wasn't shaking my fist every time it got renewed or celebrating its demise when it ended. Same with Krypton and the last two Spider-man animated series. The mere existence of an interpretation that doesn't appeal to my tastes/standards is not inherently an affront to the character or me as a fan of the character. My life is not made worse by a show that I'm not watching so I find it irrational and self-absorbed to long for it to be taken from those who are watching and those who are employed because of it.
HermanM
HermanM - 7/19/2024, 2:37 PM
@BIGBMH - That's because you're an uncritical consumer who sucks down whatever goyslop is placed in front of him on his TV set whether it is a good representation of the character or not. This show and My Adventures With Simperman are both terrible representations of the character and do indeed miss his core attributes, any audience would have liked a show about the real character just as much or better.

@Doomsday8888 - one of the best Superman portrayles ever.
Everything all around was dead on perfect.....for the CW and loving crowds that is.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 7/18/2024, 2:15 PM
So I guess they are doing the “Death of Superman” arc…

It will be interesting to see how long Clark is missing or presumed dead if that’s the route they go since they only have 10 episodes this season and I doubt they keep Tyler off screen that long in the final season.

Anyway , looking forward to this and the trailer aswell since I’ve been a big fan of the show…

Ir sucks to see it prematurely end but hope they wrap it up well because it’s been the best live action Superman content we’ve have gotten in awhile imo!!.

@TheVisionary25 - It does seem that way. I've been wondering if they'd go this route since they already had an arc of Clark going missing for a while in season 2 when he was stranded on the other Earth.

?si=9LLrnhLpKfjSBMAn

It seems like it'd evoke some similar beats, but maybe this time they really think he's dead and are grieving rather than questioning.

@BIGBMH - true

I wonder how they’ll differentiate it then and your theory could be it.

bkmeijer1 - 7/18/2024, 5:29 PM
@TheVisionary25 - seeing how the premiere is feature length, I wouldn't be surprised if they make that Supermam centric and then do the rest without him.

They already have Steel and Superboy, so they could do Reign of the Superman in the last 8 episodes. Could even have Hoechlin as Cyborg Superman and/or the Eradicator.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 7/18/2024, 5:31 PM
@bkmeijer1 - perhaps but I don’t see the actual Superman sitting out too long in this last season

Maybe half at the most imo.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 7/18/2024, 5:58 PM
@TheVisionary25 - true. I could see him show up in the last two episodes again, and maybe one or two in between
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 7/18/2024, 6:00 PM
@bkmeijer1 - I’m thinking moreso maybe even 4-5 or 3-4 more likely he’s not in.

@TheVisionary25 - why's it premature?
CaptainFlapjaks
CaptainFlapjaks - 7/18/2024, 6:56 PM
@TheVisionary25 - i know its a long shot, but it would be a neat touch if he returns with the john williams theme. Even just the first few beats of it. I can see john or jordan about to get laid out. Then a huge gust of wind followed by silence. Then the beat starts while showing off his new look synced to the beat.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 7/18/2024, 7:28 PM
@Dabs - it’s because the CW is cancelling due to a shift in programming rather then the creators ending it on its own.

But, if this is how the cw verse ends you couldn't ask for a better high-note

Hoechlin as Supes has been dam good. After Teen Wolf it's good to see how much range he has an actor.

@ModHaterSLADE - I won't lie, it took me a season to get over his looks (call me shallow, he just didn't look like Superman to me) but he definitely nails the role. By far one of the better Superman/Clark iterations in a long time. Hats off to him.
lazlodaytona
lazlodaytona - 7/18/2024, 5:21 PM
@ModHaterSLADE - I agree. I was a little reluctant until I saw the teaser for Supergirl season 2 and Clark was on the phone with Perry White then rushed off to help Supergirl save that plane-type ship
