Don't Expect To See 'Bran' & His Gang In GAME OF THRONES Season 5

We're all losing our heads while we await the return of HBO's epic fantasy series next year, but when Game Of Thrones does air its fifth season, it'll be without the characters of Bran, Hodor, Meera, Summer and co. More past the jump, but beware of book SPOILERS.

Readers of George R.R. Martin's source novels will know that by the end of Game Of Thrones season 4, Bran Stark's storyline had caught up to the point he and his pals were at in the fifth book in the series, "A Dance With Dragons". Now we've heard that Martin has told showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff certain things that will happen in the final 2 books in the event that the show catches up, but it seems that's not the case for Bran, Hodor, Meera and Summer; who when last we saw had finally encountered the Three Eyed Raven of Bran's visions. Kristian Nairn (Hodor) has revealed to Yahoo! that those character won't be a part of season 5.

"We have a season off and we have a year's hiatus, solely because I imagine our storyline is up to the end of the books. So, I get my year off now to do Rave of Thrones and gallivant all over the world."

While this obviously makes sense, it's quite unusual (maybe even unheard of?) for a tv show not to visit a main character's story arc for an entire season. Let us know what you think about this in the usual place, and also, Hodor.

Looks like we will have two returning Starks (Bran and Rickon) in S6. I hope this show goes 9 seasons, do it fleshed out and right by the books.

I wouldnt be shocked if Bran and The Three Eyed Raven have scenes, with no Hodor /Meera

@charlie2094 How do you feel at the prospect of Sansa and Littlefinger doing nothing the whole season? Should they be written out?

@charlie I think we get Griff/Young Griff this season. Greyjoys S6. We should have enough stuff this year

Well, Bran was certainly running out of story anyway.
The only problem is that when they come back for Season 6 Bran will look 20 years old while his character is supposed to be 13 or 14. What's funny is that the book character is actually somewhere between 8 and 10 years old.

I love this show. Even though I've only just finished season 1(and the second half of season 4).

Seems like a really odd choice. Don't get me wrong, I've never been much of a fan of the Bran storyline...but it seemed like it was literally JUST getting more interesting. I can't see why they would go up to that point and then decide to shelve it until the 5th season. They couldn't have skipped their storyline when they were just wandering aimlessly around the North after Winterfell fell (ha)?

@RorMachine, Not a good idea to engage, acknowledge, or otherwise pay attention to the troll. Some comments on this site are just so lacking in logic, common sense, and rationality that they don't even deserve a response haha. That is one of them.

@SauronsBANE I don't want to spoil anything, but Bran's storyline is the key to everything.

I assumed the "huh?" was for Turk. Not sure anything else on this thread deserved that response lol.

@yoss, You're not from the Island, are you? 'Cause I didn't think anyone else even paid attention to Newsday aside from us Long Islanders and people living in NYC haha.

Bran has aged out....time to become a CGI tree.

Actually @RorMachine, it looks like everyone but Bran is taking the year off. He said he's shooting and not stuck in the cave; likely warging.

@Reasonnnn, Honestly I kind of figured that. I've only read the first book so far (fully caught up on the show though) and I can already tell that GRRM was setting up Bran and the 3-eyed raven to be a major plot thread throughout the story. So that makes it even more confusing as to why they'd completely skip such an important storyline for an entire season.

@MrNiklander, Thank you good sir!

I always manage to forget how amazing this series is until another piece of news pops up.

Then I consider watching all four seasons all over again. For the fourth time.

@SauronsBANE Yeah. Also, fun facts: Bran's chapter (which happens to start the book series) is the first chapter he wrote. He also said that his chapters are the hardest to write because of the magic-based plot threads.

I think Turk is funny. He is the only one making a fight between MS movies and other MS movies.
SauronsBANE
SauronsBANE - 9/3/2014, 12:15 PM
@Reasonnnn, Pretty neat! GRRM starting the entire story off with a Bran-focused chapter was probably the biggest clue that Eddard wasn't ever the main character of the first book (which most people assumed in both the books and the show...until they chopped his head off). Not sure I'd say Bran was the main character either, but that decision always stuck out to me.

@yoss, Ah I hear ya. Newsday is kind of a glorified tabloid at this point, so I'd look for another source for him passing away just to make sure haha.
