Another Game of Thrones alum has revealed that he has a role in Justice League. Michael McElhatton, best known for playing Roose Bolton on HBO's fantasy drama, has confirmed a role in Justice League, however, he's remaining mum on exactly who he's playing.

What the Irish actor did choose to divulge is that his character will appear during the film's opening. Fans keeping abreast of details on the film should are no doubt well aware of the rumor that Justice League opens with a gigantic battle between the forces of Apokolips and a combined army of Atlanteans, Amazons, humans and possibly Thanagarians over three Motherboxes that subsequently get scattered around the planet.

Beside McElhatton, Ciarin Hinds is confirmed to be playing Steppenwolf, leader of the Apokolips military. Could Zack Snyder look to establish a theme, with various Game of Thrones alum playing prominent figures in the Apokolips hierarchy? Could the opening flashback see Yuga Khan (Steppenwolf's brother and Darkseid's father) sitting on the Apokolips throne? Or might we see the Greek pantheon also riding to war against the other-worldly invaders?

So he is probably the king at the beginning, seen in the first comic con teaser burying the Mother box, but the fan in me wants him to be Darkseid really bad

@ConnorHawkeye - At this point, for me, when I see any actor with a unconfirmed role in this, they automatically go to darkseid

@ConnorHawkeye - It's possible but I think they would get a bigger name for Darkseid.

@MarkJulian - Yeah true, just curious, who is your choice?

@ConnorHawkeye - I have no clue. You need someone intimidating but who also brings a certain amount of dignity. A mixture of Anthony Hopkins and Tony Todd.

As soon as he mentioned "more humor in it" all I could imagine was a clause in the contract these actors sign with WB that specifically says something to the effect of: "when discussing the film (Justice League) with press or any other media affiliate, please ensure to describe the film as 'lighter in tone,' 'more humorous,' 'very different feel,' etc."

And I'm not even a Marvelite or whatever... I loved BvS (especially the Ultimate Edition). But just the way he had to think about it after that second question made me feel that it was actually a stipulation of his contract. Lol. :p Plus, EVERY actor in this film who's been interviewed so far has basically said those things.

On the other hand, it could just be TRUE. Which is what I'm hoping but... time will tell!

@CanadaMan - it probably just is true. I love BvS but it leads me into many a heated debate on this site and with friends in real life.

I just keep pushing..."it was titled batman vs. superman. They were going to fight and it was with high stakes, life and death. You don't get two characters to fight to the death with jokes and humor. The whole film needed to be as grim as it was to reflect the mood of two heroes who would fall so far to reach a point of killing each other.

But

That was then. Now we are on to the Justice League. Hope, Rebirth, Redemption. Characters moods and mind set that Lend themselves far greater to levity, humor and what not.

@IronGenesis - Exactly. And that's why I'm certainly hoping it's just the truth! I never understand the people who complain about the way Batman was portrayed in BvS: that was the whole point of his character arc! He wasn't SUPPOSED to be the Batman we all know and love... and yet those same people turn around and say DC's pushing "too much Batman" even though they just tried to do something fresh with the character. :p

And I don't intend to lend credence to the anti-DC camp here, I just thought it was funny the way he hesitated. Lol. Realistically, it's only because he's legally obligated not to give any plot details away so he was probably just trying to think of how to word his response.

Just know that you're not alone in your love for BvS here, friend. I look forward to Justice League as a response to / continuation of the character arcs set up in BvS as well.
