GAME OF THRONES: Prepare For Some Surprising Deaths In Season 5

Major characters buying the farm in HBO's Game Of Thrones is nothing new, but up until now book readers had the luxury of knowing when each death was coming. Last night at the WGWA Awards, George R.R. Martin suggested we should be ready to be taken out of our comfort zone in season 5!

A while ago actress Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) told us all to prepare for a lot more blood and death in the fifth season of Game Of Thrones (not exactly surprising), with an event or two that'll be "perhaps even more shocking than the Red Wedding." That might seem like a bold statement, but now the author of the Song of Ice and Fire saga may have backed Miss Turner up. George R.R. Martin was a surprise guest at the Writers Guild West Awards in LA last night, and told those in attendance that they probably shouldn't get too attached to their favourite characters. “People are going to die who don’t die in the books, so even the book readers will be unhappy," he warned. "So everybody better be on their toes. David and D.B. are even bloodier than I am.” This actually already began last season with the death of Jojen Reed who is still alive and kicking in the novels, but by the sounds of things we're in for some more shocks come April. Surely the likes of Tyrion and Arya are safe... right? There's more from Martin at the link below.

they better start introducing some new characters then cause there is only a handful of "major characters" and the Red Lady had better damn well heal a character that something bad happened to at the end of the last book

It's cool that GRRM seems cool with them killing off more characters and changing stuff up from the books. I was getting ready to finally know what happens in the show beforehand, since I'm in the middle of reading A Feast for Crows, but looks like it'll still be pretty unpredictable. The whole '2 books split by geography' thing is a pain though.

Ha ha ha ha well they finally did it... Changed everything so much and jumped so far ahead we will not be watching Game of Thrones anymore we will now get some shit hole directors vision of a show they want.... Too bad I enjoyed seeing the book come to life and not have to watch some show that is a less than par directors vision... Following the books material made the name for these directors not going off the beaten path....

I Can't see how this comes as a surprise to anyone. If you're the author who hasn't finished writing the series that will define your career, would you want the TV show that has enhanced you & that work to completely undercut it, by revealing all the plot points/twists before publishing? Of course not, it has to be different. And if you're complaining about it, you're either naive, immature or a dumbass that just needs to see on TV what your imagination couldn't do for you while reading the books. I want to be shocked as often as possible when I watch, not just biding my time for next big moment from the books to air.

@TheLurker You seem like you're completely rational, think logically, and actually have common sense...which are 3 qualities that are sorely missing from the majority of users on this site. It might go against the spirit of your username haha, but please comment more often!

Niem8211...this is partly the fault of GRRM taking his sweet ass time to finish the books. The show has now surpassed the books. What was HBO gonna do? Take time off waiting? This is a business son!

Speculation on the Trailer combined with Non-Book-Deaths: SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!! BUT SPECULATION!

I think we'll lose Grey Worm, Ser Alliser Thorne and maybe (I effin dont hope so) Bronn or Jamie. Maybe Jorah too? So it would mean my last three beloved favorites would be out in Season 5. This would be terrible. I would stop watching...

nah I know. I wouldnt.. LOL.

Spoilers End (even though its just speculation..)

This is what I love about the show. It's unpredictable and doesn't bank on popular characters but great story telling.

If Tryrion or Arya die, ISL will come after GRRM, D.B. Weiss and David Benoit.

Wow, thats really interesting, I knew they were already starting to jump ahead of the books in some areas, but to kill characters Martin doesn't plan to kill is pretty interesting.

I guess it makes sense, Martin has the luxury of being able to include as many characters as he wants in his novels, for as long as possible, but the show-runners on the other hand risk it getting too convoluted for a regular TV audience, and so ending story arcs earlier etc.. isn't such a bad thing. It actually makes me more excited to continue with both properties.

@cronnyberg...another rational post. Be careful, we'll exceed the quota & alert the trolls that sanity has broken out.

@mcgee you keep up the great posts. LMAO at least once daily to your stuff. Appreciate a like-minded perverted mind with a rational sensibility & strong nerd pimp hand

@Sauronsbane & @Reasonnn if I ever bothered to learn how to post pics, I'd have something cheesey to insert below as gratitude for the compliments...or just a pair of bouncing tits

Cool. Just don't kill Tyrion. He's one of the best characters on TV, ever.
