GAME OF THRONES Season 7 Won't Air Until Summer 2017; Shorter Episode Count Confirmed By HBO

Well, this is pretty f***ing depressing. HBO has confirmed today that we won't see Game of Thrones in 2017 until much later than expected, and as if that wasn't bad enough, we're getting less episodes too!

HBO has confirmed that some major changes are coming to Westeros, and those having nothing to do with Dany's impending arrival. The cable network revealed today (via Entertainment Weekly) that season seven of the critically acclaimed series won't return until next summer, meaning we'll be waiting quite a bit longer than the April premiere date we've grown used to in recent years.

To make matters worse, the next season will consist of only seven episodes instead of the usual ten. To be fair though, it's better to have a few less instalments to look forward to that the story being stretched out for the sake of it. Another interesting titbit is that shooting will take place in Northern Ireland, Spain, and Iceland, especially as the latter has always been used for scenes set North of the Wall. That no doubt points to us spending more time there as the battle with the Night King looms.

"Now that winter has arrived on Game of Thrones, executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss felt that the storylines of the next season would be better served by starting production a little later than usual, when the weather is changing," said Casey Bloys, president, HBO programming. "Instead of the show’s traditional spring debut, we’re moving the debut to summer to accommodate the shooting schedule." This premiere date could take the show out of Emmy consideration next year.

I hate that they are rushing the ending of this great show.. Last season felt rushed and I can only imagine with 7 episodes this next season will feel even more rushed.. They have such great characters and a rich world that fans love, why rush to the ending after all this build up? Seems like they don't want to do the show anymore and just want to get it over with, I really hope the story doesn't suffer because of it..

@HulkbusterNYC - What specifically feels rushed to you? Dany's been amassing power in Essos for six seasons. Jon has been at the Wall for six seasons. The Lannisters have controlled the throne for six seasons. The threat of the White Walkers has been brewing for six seasons. It's time to start bringing all these major plot threads together.

I was hoping for a 10-episode season 7, and 3-hr movie-finale.

After such a shitty season i don't really care. It's not worth having the books spoiled for something so sub par.

@DarthBastard - may I ask how this season was subpar? Or are you just one of those people who gets hard by having a differing opinion than the vast majority.
Because honestly 6.09 and 6.10 are the two best episodes the series has put out

You might want to change the title. Of course Season 7 won't air until 2017. That's a flarking given. The fact that it won't air until Summer 2017 is the real news.

Actually, this isn't so bad. There will be less filler so we'll get a higher quality for the lower quantity of episodes. Let's fool ourselves here - the past two seasons have really given us some flat episodes.

I think a lot of it has to do with budget too, now that Dany is coming to Westeros that means a lot more dragons which means a lot of FX money. So fewer episodes makes sense
