GAME OF THRONES Showrunners Confirm The Show Will Spoil Future Books

Many fans have been worried about HBO's hit series going beyond the source material and perhaps even spoil the books. Now the series' showrunners have revealed that the show will not only go beyond the books, but will also spoil plot points including the ending of A Song Of Ice and Fire.

Fans have been asking author George R.R. Martin to hurry and release the next installment of A Song Of Ice And Fire, before HBO's hit series goes beyond the books. Now Game of Thrones showrunners, Dan Weiss and David Benioff, revealed at the Oxford Union that the hit show will be going beyond the current novels and will spoil many events to come with Martin's series. "Luckily, we’ve been talking about this with George for a long time, ever since we saw this could happen, and we know where things are heading. And so we’ll eventually, basically, meet up at pretty much the same place where George is going."  The showrunner also reveals that while the series will share many future plot points with the books, "there might be a few deviations along the route, but we’re heading towards the same destination. I kind of wish that there were some things we didn’t have to spoil, but we’re kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. The show must go on. . .and that’s what we’re going to do."

If you're worried that the show will hurt sales for Martin's fantasy series, or you think there is no reason to read the books don't worry because showrunner Benioff says, "I think the thing that’s kind of fun for George is the idea that he can still have surprises for people even once they’ve watched the show through to the conclusion. There are certain things that are going to happen in the books that are different in the show, and I think people who love the show and want more—want to know more about the characters, want to know more about the different characters who might not have made the cut for the show—will be able to turn to the books."

Nah, no one cares about this show. Hardly anyone watches it, and even people who claim to hate it don't take the time to read and comment on articles about it.

Yeah...let's not let one little troll comment derail this entire thread, shall we?

Anyways, it was kind of inevitable that this would happen. It's not like GRRM is suddenly going to speed up his writing, nor is it even remotely possible for the show to take an extended hiatus and wait for GRRM to finish.

It genuinely sucks for the book readers who have literally waited decades to read through the conclusion of the story...but I mean, that's the price to pay with a slow, methodical writer who's orchestrating a ridiculously convoluted plot and trying to figure out the best possible way to tie all the threads together and end it in satisfying fashion.

Still, the show has made TONS of changes to the books, and so while the end destination might be the same (and thus, spoilery)...the paths to that destination will be vastly different in the books. If anything, it'll be worth it to see all the countless thinkpieces and editorials that come out internet-wide that dissect both endings in both mediums. This whole show vs book thing is really a rare event, and it'll be fun to see it play out in real time.

It was bound to happen when RR Martin can't write in timely manner.

I enjoy the books and the show equally. The tv series is not on Walking Dead level when it comes to deviating from the source material. Books are words on paper. Limitless. TV? Not so much.

Like the books more, but then again that goes for everything. We wouldn't have the problem of the show going beyond the books and spoiling everything if Martin would get off his fat ass and work.

I take it you've never written a 1,000 page fantasy epic, TheGambitFreak? In fact, I'm willing to bet that you certainly haven't written five, along with countless other fantasy novels.

I don't want to excuse Martin, but writing a novel is not like building a [frick]ing car.

The show could stall a little telling stories like Lady Stoneheart, but they scratch a lot of things and now they have to move forward.

I'm okay with it personally. I read the books when the show was already running, and so far they are doing an okay job at keeping things fresh for me, as well as seemingly actually cutting parts I didn't care all that much about to begin with (sorry Lady Stoneheart fans!).

I DO see how this migh really suck for faithful long time readers. But I guess around the point of S3 starting without there being any signs of the new book being close to finished people needed to start preparing for a scenario like this. :/

Really looking forward to this season....

We're pretty early on too, we're finally going to get to see Braavos....

Personally, I don't mind that the show will spoil the books, the books are great but it will be really nice having that element of surprise while watching the show.

The books are so much better than the show.

I'm not a big reader but damn it they really suck you in.

The show is the best thing on TV today though.

Haven't read the books. I will at some point, but I've got at least 20 books on my bookshelf that I haven't read, so GRRM will have to wait.

Can't wait for Season 5 to start. I may be more hyped for GoT than I am for Daredevil. It'll be a hell of a weekend.

Terrible news, but GRRM needs to get his act together. Also the show really needs at least 8 season instead of 7 (or add 2 or 3 eps per season). Not happy GRRM, not happy.
