HOUSE OF THE DRAGON Trailer Teases What's To Come In The Aftermath Of [SPOILER]'s Shocking Death

The first episode of House of the Dragon season 2 is now streaming on Max, and in typical Game of Thrones fashion, the prequel series returned to our screens with a shocking character death.

Now, the streamer has now released a new "weeks ahead" trailer featuring some big hints about what's to come.

Spoilers follow.

The teaser sees King Aegon officially declare war on the Black Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen after discovering that his beloved son Jaehaerys has been brutally murdered by the assassins known as Blood and Cheese. We also see Rhaenyra admonish Daemon for giving the order, noting that his actions have only weakened her claim to the throne.

As for the son Rhaenyra actually wanted dead, we hear Aemond Targaryen say that he "welcomes" a one-on-one fight with his uncle Daemon (something tells us he should be careful what he wishes for).

We also get a quick glimpse of a mysterious new character in a red cloak. There's been some speculation that this could be one of the red priestesses of R'hllor or even Melisandre herself (unlikely... although she did claim to be alive during this time period).

The footage also shows that Queen Alicent has continued her illicit affair with Ser Criston Cole.

"Are they comfortable with each other? It feels very awkward there," co-creator Ryan Condol tells Collider. "They're literally talking about the weather. So, that's the thing, it's a brand-new relationship. We don't specifically get into, intentionally, when and where it started. Part of that is the fun of leaving it up to interpretation by the viewing audience. But it's certainly a new thing, a new romance. And the idea is that these two characters have this very stunted emotional development, particularly in the world of intimacy with a partner. Cole, because he's been a canned man his entire life in the order of the Kingsguard and his past sins with Rhaenyra and wearing that like a millstone around his neck."

"The prequel series finds the Targaryen dynasty at the absolute apex of its power, with more than 15 dragons under their yoke. Most empires—real and imagined—crumble from such heights. In the case of the Targaryens, their slow fall begins almost 193 years before the events of Game of Thrones, when King Viserys Targaryen breaks with a century of tradition by naming his daughter Rhaenyra heir to the Iron Throne. But when Viserys later fathers a son, the court is shocked when Rhaenyra retains her status as his heir, and seeds of division sow friction across the realm."

House of the Dragon season 2 sees Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans reprise their respective roles. Additional returning cast includes Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, and Matthew Needham.

The directors for the new season are Alan Taylor (Episodes 1 & 4), Clare Kilner (Episodes 2 & 5), Geeta Patel (Episodes 3 & 8), Andrij Parekh (Episode 6), and Loni Peristere (Episode 7).

Oh look. That show everyone forgets about when they call the crowd who hates the acolyte racist, sexist, and homophobic.

@Origame - I personally have never seen anyone called a racist, sexist, or homophobe for not liking a show. I have, on many occasions, seen people called a racist, sexist, or homophobe for making racist, sexist, and homophobic comments.

@Lisa89 - yes, those racist, sexist, homophobic comments like "this show sucks" or "this scene is stupid".

@Origame - I’ve said that exact phrase about the acolyte because that show is poorly written garbage with misinterpreted lore, personal politics interjected, and just terrible acting that’s hard to watch. Don’t care about their sexual orientation, skin color, gender identity, in fact I think that’s the issue in that show - it discusses any of that at all. Focus on good story telling and putting together a good show! HOTD on the other hand makes great choices, the top acting on tv practically, takes the source material and fantasy genre seriously but also makes their own choices. It’s creative, visually stunning, and reverent of fans not patronizing. There is a legit quality reason in my opinion why one could compare these two.

@Ghoul - yeah exactly. The problem isn't that we're making this about identity politics. It's that they are. Leslie headland even admitted the acolyte is basically a gay fantasy of hers.

@Origame - Absolutely NOWHERE in this video is a specific person identified as a bigot for "not liking The Acolyte". It's merely full of sweeping statements about "we" and "them" from all ends of the equation. Please provide a time-stamp if I missed something. My original statement still stands.

@Origame - very well said! That’s exactly it I agree !!

@Lisa89 - so the guy literally claiming nerdrotic and critical drinker are fanning the flames of bigotry doesn't mean they're being bigots?

No, you're original statement doesn't stand. You didn't watch the video.
Lisa89
Lisa89 - 6/18/2024, 10:48 AM
@Origame - Since this video only contains examples of collectives broadly accusing collectives, why don't you provide a link to something from here? You claimed it's "all over" this site, so that should be easy.
Origame
Origame - 6/18/2024, 11:01 AM
@Lisa89 - no it doesn't. It regularly plays the video of a youtuber accusing critical drinker and nerdrotic of fanning the flames of bigotry for specifically their acolyte reviews.

And I'm not because you're just gonna deny it. Fireandblood religiously does it. Really don't know how you miss it.

@Origame - Hey, I've never read the books but from a Game of Thrones lense, can't Aegon (or whatever his name is) just be like, "Okay, they killed my son...but I'll just have another one. And boost my security." Now, if those guys had killed the guy with the eyepatch, now THAT would've been a problem cause you can't just replace that guy.

But a baby? Ehhhh.

I'm just saying, those assassins really effed up.

@HappyMan1 - I mean, that baby was the king's son. No way are they just gonna let that slide and just up security.

Wars in time periods equivalent to this have been started over far less.

HappyMan1 - 6/18/2024, 4:42 PM
@Origame - No, I know this means war. I'm just saying if those assassins wanted to actually do a significant blow they should've killed the guy with the eyepatch instead of a baby boy who can easily be replaced.
Origame
Origame - 6/18/2024, 4:51 PM
@HappyMan1 - idk. I think either option gets the job done. But not only is one easier, having an actual baby die instead of a full grown man is gonna be a bigger blow emotionally.

The Red Wedding cannot be topped.

Don't believe the hype.

@Doomsday8888 - B&C was never a RW level event, even in the books (where it was much more brutal than the show version). HotD is still a great show and a worthy successor to the original.

@rebellion - "HotD is still a great show and a worthy successor to the original".

As much as I enjoy the show, I'll wait until its conclusion to agree with that assessment.

For a moment it seemed like Aegon genuinely cared for his people and then Otto regained control of the steering wheel. The chaos that Otto and Daemon have done is going to nosedive into a bloody war.

Are they still doing that stupid time jump crap with different actors? I couldn't get past the 3-4 episodes in 1st season, it was obnoxious

@Pathogen - no, do some research. Google is your best friend

@Smoothcat - For what? I can just ask fans here. I didn't feel like bothering with google, for a show that is overrated and hyped.
I was just curious, to see if maybe this season was passable/watchable.
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 6/18/2024, 1:33 PM
@Pathogen - There were no cast changes except from Laenor in the first 3-4 episodes of Season 1, who wasn’t a main player at that point, so what are you on about exactly?
FireandBlood
FireandBlood - 6/18/2024, 1:40 PM
@Pathogen - Season 1 was peak television. If you didn’t find that “passable”, the show just isn’t for you.

It wasn't "shocking". It was just another brutal death in a series full of death and destruction. It's all murder porn.

Hopefully if this season gives us even a glimmer of what F&B did, this is going to be gloriously chaotic. S2 premiere was pretty decent, though I have to admit, Blood and Cheese felt a little underwhelming, especially the show omitting what Cheese says to Maelor, which is another peeve I have with the lack of Maelor. But overall, a good start, especially with Jace and Rhaenyra's shared grieving of Luce.
