Littlefinger Changed The Most Says GAME OF THRONES' GRRM

George R.R. Martin says Petyr Baelish aka Littlefinger, is the character that changed the most in the jump from print to television."...that’s true of television show Littlefinger, but it’s certainly not true of book Littlefinger." Continue on to see what he's talking about.

On the differences between tv Littlefinger and novel Littlefinger, series author George R.R. Martin stated (via Winter is Coming), "There was a a line in a recent episode of the show where, he’s not even present, but two people are talking about him and someone says ‘Well, no one trusts Littlefinger’ and ‘Littlefinger has no friends.’ And that’s true of television show Littlefinger, but it’s certainly not true of book Littlefinger. Book Littlefinger, in the book, everybody trusts him. Everybody trusts him because he seems powerless, and he’s very friendly, and he’s very helpful. … But of course there’s the Machiavellian thing."

"Season 4 of Game of Thrones was formally commissioned by HBO on April 2, 2013 after viewer ratings showed a substantial increase between the second and third season openers. Due to the sheer length of the third novel, which is roughly 1.5 times the size of the first novel, the events of "A Storm of Swords" was split between season 3 and the upcoming season 4. However, Season 4 may also contain some material from the fourth and fifth books as some of those events happen concurrently to events taking place in "A Storm of Swords." In the wake of the Red Wedding, how does the North pick up the pieces and with their greatest enemy seemingly crushed, where does that leave the Lannisters. Daenerys Targaryen now has an army but is she ready to take back her homeland. Does Jon Snow turn south to seek revenge or remember his duty along the Wall?"

Looking forward to Jamie's golden boy training... @ Trudes - Varys is by far the best character; lets face it.. he's survived The Mad King, Robert, Geoffry, etc.. LIKE A BOSS

Wow! The lack of grey matter on this site truly shows with the absence of comments on this post. Yet a TASM 2 picture of a poster elicits 12 pages of fevered debate!

I love this show and never read the books but purchased the first three recently. Now I am in a quandary where I want to experience the books but don't want to spoil the unseen 4th season. I can't imagine missing out on the shock of the red wedding with having read about it beforehand. What should I do? Read only what I've seen so far, or forge ahead into the new books? Anyone?

@racerrex... I would read the books, they are much more expensive and as great as the show is, the books are better. The shock of events like the red wedding was just as strong in the book. Even more so to be honest. And there are enough small differences that both will feel fresh.

@racerx - Read the books.. They're a slow burn, a good read and the show compliments them well. Nothing was spoiled though, so stop acting like we just told you that Jon Snow is really the son of Rhaegar and Lyanna Stark :)

@sik - Agreed; the Red Wedding was so well written and the show complimented it so well. Another example is Blackwater Bay - it was phenomenally written from multiple perspectives and the show depicted that to a degree.. But reading it compliments the show so well as it gives you even more.

Waiting for the next book Martin.....would suck to invest so much so far only to have this author suddenly die of natural causes before he's finished.

@RacerREX

I would say go for it; as someone who reached A Feast for Crows before embarking beyond the pilot episode of the show, I can attest to the fact that the latter holds its own.

Although myself and many of my friends knew what was going to happen at the Red Wedding, it still managed to take everyone by surprise.

I know it isn't much, but Martin is still producing material set within the universe.

Arya is kind of nerfed in the show. She's more of a stone cold killer in the books.

My fave character. :)

I haven't had the chance to read the novels but I'm completely hooked on the show. Martin has redefined the traditional fantasy genre with a story that has gritty down and dirty drama with edge of your seat action.

The genius about this story is that there is no good vs evil here, only shades of grey just like in the real world. The heroes are flawed and some of the apparent villains eventually are not what they seem to be.

You feel for these characters, because just like in the real world, at one second you're on top of the world and a moment later your life can end in a flash. And for Martin, no one is exempt. Heroes, villains, and even the protagonists are not safe from the Grim Reaper.

And the story keeps building up and leading to events and confrontations that are by far bigger than the characters themselves. Their plots and schemes pale in comparison with what they will eventually have to face as a whole.

Now for those who might be concerned with George R.R. Martin passing away before the books are finished, you can feel some relief. Fortunately Martin took the time to sit down with the producers and tell them exactly how he plans the story to end, in case that if he was gone before he could complete the novels, the producers could follow up the remaining story arc to its intended conclusion.

Is jon snow the rightful king then?

I think this whole story has been about Jon Snow. If rumors prove true that he is the son of Rhaeger and Lyanna stark then he is indeed the "song" (product) of Fire (Rhaeger=Dragons) and Ice (Lyanna= direwolf(associated with the cold) ). Another indication was when GRRM pulled the title for the final book which was "A Time For Wolves". Some believe he did this because it was too obvious the victors would be the Starks most likely Jon Snow.

After Book 5 you realize it's really Little-finger vs. Varys. The show definitely displays more of how powerful/dangerous Little-finger is than the books. I mean that speech he gives on Chaos as a ladder damn man is cold blooded.

@Emjeed agreed I definitely think that's the case.

Even if Jon is truly the offspring of the Targaryens and the Starks, and is a potential heir to the throne, this doesn't guarantee that he will make it to the end.

And trust me, this is one of my favorite characters in the story, but the truth is that you never know with Martin. If his track record has taught us anything, is that nobody is safe. Even the ones thought to be the protagonists of the story.

Another thing that Martin has stressed before is that he doesn't like happy endings. So in conclusion, I wouldn't dare to put my money on any specific character who I believe that will end on top after the smoke clears and the rivers of blood cool off. And the reason for that is quite simple:

We're dealing with George R.R. Martin.
