Pedro Pascal On Last Night's Brutal Ep Of GAME OF THRONES

Well, the Viper and The Mountain finally met in the arena on Game Of Thrones last night, and Tyrion's trial by combat is over. If you've seen the ep you know the outcome and might want to hear Pascal's (Prince Oberyn) thoughts on how it all went down. If not, don't click!

Obviously if you haven't watched last night's Game Of Thrones, massive SPOILER warning!

So the Viper (Oberyn Martell) managed to defeat the Mountain (Gregor Clegane) in the arena after a long, brutal fight..but his arrogance and insistence on prolonging his enemy's torture resulted in him being knocked off his feet, and having his head smashed in! It was a twist I don't think anyone that hasn't read the books saw coming, as we only met Oberyn this season and one of the most popular character's life also hung in the balance if he lost. While speaking to Access Hollywood, Pedro Pascal reveals his love for the character and why he'll miss playing him so much.

Prince Oberyn serves as Tyrion's champion

“It’s awful. It’s heartbreaking. I love the character. I fell in love with the character and maybe that helped me play him. The first thing that helped me identify with him was actually a love for him. I found him very delicious. I also found him very, very honorable and very progressive and just an all-around badass, not because he’s a great fighter and because he likes to f*** everything that moves, but because he has morals that I identify with. So it was always very hard for me to kind of like, detach myself from my own heartbreak that the character goes out the way that he goes out.”

We know Oberyn is dead now, but if there was ever an opportunity to revisit the character's backstory in a movie or spin-off series, Pascal would be more than happy to jump on board. “I mean, really, do you have to ask?” He laughs. “Anything to take me out of mourning.” More at the link below.

Still in shock.
Should have ended it when he had the chance. He could've made him suffer while he gives his big speech.

Not a book reader, so couldn't wait for the fight...the "death by arrogance" was definitely foreshadowed, so wasn't too suprised, still hoped he would have lived...bummer...

It wasn't arrogance and insistence on prolonging his enemy's torture. He wanted the truth about his sister, he NEEDED A THE TRUTH so that he could launch a war against the Lanisters. It was not arogance.

What a brutal, viscous death... Posted this in another thread, but His speech reminded me of princess bride revenge... My name is Enigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die!!!

And another character falls victim to the dreaded villian exposition, tho agree with @sikwon, he needed to hear that to fulfill his plan of revenge on the lannisters. He said it to Tyrion in the alley after he first came to kings landing.

Great episode all around, tho I feel Dany is not going to trust many people from now on. And can anyone explain, without giving away too much, why did Dany let him go? Grey work should have cut his throat right there in the throne room.

When he kept yelling "You raped her! You murdered her! You killed her children!" I kept hearing "Hello! My name is Inigo Montoya! You kill my father! Prepare to die!" and picturing it as a fight between Inigo and Fezzik...

I don't think people will ever forgive GRRM for that. Killing off Robb and Catelyn after we've been invested in them for three books is one thing, but introducing a character that awesome and killing him off in the same book is another thing altogether.
