Just got back from the movie and it was awesome... I am, however, looking foward to getting some feedback from people that didn't read the comic. I am going to have to give my review at work on Monday to people that havn't read the G.N. and I am finding it hard to compare it to anything that they would understand.
I felt there were a few details left out that would have helped pull the whole plot in the comic together. i.e. the new frontersmen - Rorschach's journal and why he picked that paper over all of the others. (The "liberals" slamming was great by the way) I was looking foward to having a little bit of the Black Freghter plot inside the movie. Just a few snippits couldnt have hurt?
The actors were all dead on except for Ozzy. He seemed a little too young to play Ozzy, but did ok. I would have liked to see an older(than Goode) actor play that role. Jack Hayley was awesome as Rorschach. You could really tell that he loved that role and took it to heart. Both Silk Spetre's were beautiful (especially S.S. II) and Night Owl was great. I was afraid that they mis-cast The Comedian, but he ended being about what I would have pictured in my head reading the book. Manhattan was a little boring, but that is about what he is in the book. I would have paid money for 3 hours of Rorschach though, he was great!
The changes in the story didn't bother me too much. The squid was stupid anyway and anyone that didn't read the comic would have thought it was gay. Good call cutting the squid.
Other than that, it was like seeing the comic come to life right off of the page. Very pleased overall. Cant wait for the extended version on DVD.
