I saw it this afternoon and was mind boggled. It's probably the first film I've seen where I actually read the book first and it was interesting to see the transition. The opening credits were great. I though Goode did a fine job, after seeing the film it's obviously difficult to imagine anyone else in the role. There are minuscule details that are either re-arranged, embellished, or omitted altogether, but all in all it's pretty much the graphic novel verbatim (except for the ending). Fights were exaggerated but brought spectacle, and unfortunately the death of Hollis mason was omitted from this cut of the film. However, according to Snyder, it will be in his director's cut. My major issue with the acting was actually with Malin Akerman. Visually she is Laurie without a doubt, but verbally it's a different story. For the initial half of the film, she seems to struggle to bring the character out, however, she is able to successfully pull it together by the finale. The visual style of this film is something unseen by anyone. I cannot describe it. The Graphic novel is very much a visual experience, it was always meant to look surreal. The movie may not use the greens, purples and oranges that are so often seen in the panels of the book, but it does capture this world in a way that truly makes it breath with life. The ending is what fans have pretty much figured out. and it does work without the squid. This film will surely require multiple views in order to really grasp a hold onto all of it's content because by the time it was done, i was having trouble recalling scenes from the beginning of the film. i can't even imagine how incredibly better the director's cut of the film will be, but all in all I think this theatrical cut really got the job done. Be warned!!!!!!!!!! this film is, if possible even more graphic than the novel. The fight scenes really are crazy and blood seems to be a common tend in this film. this is a good thing in my opinion. Anyone else who has seen it can tell you there is nothing cooler than a back alley fight, or a couple of hungry German shepherds. while there were a few "eh" kind of parts such as conveniently landing less than a mile from Karnak, or Rorchach's costume conveniently stored in the psychologist's office at the prison, I thought Snyder really did a fabulous job. it felt like Watchmen, it is Watchmen to me.
