I went to a showing last night. The movie was amazing!!! A few things were out of order or missing, including the changed ending, but overall, the movie was as close to the graphic novel as any movie under 15 hours could be. The opening credits had some amazing imagery and things from "Under The Hood" too, which was a nice touch.

I thought Snyder did a great job.

I'll be seeing it again on opening day!!!

FYI for those of us that have to actually wait until opening day to see it. Apparently if you preorder your tickets on Fandango.com, you get to download the first chapter of the motion comic for free, and a sneak peek at The Black Freighter from itunes.

I was unaware of this until a received a neat little promo code in my email from them. Pleasant surprise!

Won tickets to an advanced screening and was able to see it tonight. Having read the novel, I think I need to see it again before I can decide whether I would call it a win or not. The friend I saw it with had not read it and had so many questions afterward he had to borrow my copy of Watchmen to help clarify things. Probably not a good sign for the non-fanboys out there.

I have to say, having waited twenty plus years to see this film finally come to fruition... Pleasantly surprised!

The scant footage that I had seen online or on television barely do this film justice! True, for those of us near and dear to the source material, there was a LOT to digest, and even more to analyze.

The only negative thing that I would be able to say is, not in reference to the already overly stated "squid" alterations to the story, but with the fact that the movie was too short! (I know, right?! LOL)
There was so much of the character nuances that could have been touched on, but with all honesty, you cannot expect a film interpretation of ANY novel to be able to touch on all points in the film.

Overall, this is one of the closest and most faithful adaptations of a novel/graphic novel that I have ever seen!

Mr. Snyder, you have done it again! You should be proud of the work that you have done on this film! I sure as hell am!

Just saw Watchmen and loved it. It wasn't perfect by any means, but it stayed very true to the graphic novel. Although Rorschach was the standout character, they were each portrayed well, including Ozymandias. It's a shame that due to one person's opinion in an advance review that many fans will go into theater prepared not to give the actor a chance. In my opinion he did well enough to make me wish he had more screen time. If there was any considerable flaw in any of the performances I would have to say that Dr. Manhattan's voice came across as wimpy more than distanced. This did prove to be distracting at times.

Zack Snyder's execution was impressive overall, but some scenes, such as the Comedian facing the Vietnamese woman he got pregnant, lacked impact due to what seemed to be rushed set ups. The movie's climax was definitely set up in a rushed and somewhat clunky way. And if there was any omission that really bugged me it was the origin of Rorschach's mask. That was a detail I appreciated in the graphic novel.

The following statement may sound like blasphemy to some, but I have to admit that one big positive of the movie was a better ending. I truly feel that it made more sense, especially since it further justifies Dr. Manhattan's departure at the end. The squid in the graphic novel always felt like an odd choice and I think it would seem seriously odd in a live action movie.

Fingers crossed now...hope to see the director's cut in theaters.

So I'm tired, but I just got back from the midnight showing and I'll mention a couple things.

A- The way the music was used was amazing, one of the more interesting choices for the film that really put it over the top for me.

B- The movie is all about the characterizations, the actual plot is secondary as it should be. A huge amount of time is spent showing the histories of all the characters, in fact that's most of the movie which I thought was great.

C- The CGI at times seemed intentionally obvious, as if to show you the brush strokes of the artist, the consistency it provided worked fairly well for me, though I think some people will see this as a big fault, of course this may also just be a side effect of the Imax experience, can't tell, must investigate further.

D- All the actors were great, any weakness the movie had is in some of the editing and filming choices that had nothing to do with acting, such as I would have like to see more bodies, or at least see the explosions going off in more cities as mentioned.

E- The intelligence of the content is polished brightly and comes off wonderfully, I laughed at Snyder's add in of, "Everything will be fine so long as people still think Jon is up there watching us." There were a lot of these moments in the film, none of which seemed forced, rather they slipped seamlessly into the dialogue and situations.

F- I think at the end any disappointment I felt was that the finite stream of wonderful moments had finally come to an end.

Oh right, almost forgot, yes this is one of my top all time movies, 10/10 (10/10 doesn't mean perfect, nothing is perfect, but this is just so good on so many levels it blows it's contemporaries away)

Ill post more tommorow

I went to the midnight showing. Few things ill say and not be a nerd and write a novel

the begining of the movie had me nervous......right after the big intro i was kinda worried it was going to head south with the over the top acting.

Gore was great

plenty of blue penis for the ladies (everyone was groaning)

music for love scene was hilarious

they did a great bringin the comic to the scene, and i think with the squid everynoe would of been just as confused. I heard people saying "that was a waste of 20 bucks" and i heard it alot when people left. that and complaints of blue penis.

alot of people had a problem understanding the meaning of the movie, or understanding the moral of the story.

thats all i'll say with out nerding out too much haha

I just saw it today and i thought it was just kinda ok. The music was too awkward. It seemed too much like: here is the next scene; insert song here, next to this car which is placed, thusly. like a sony movie. the musical choices themselves were also strange. The movie spans many decades and it shouldnt be a hit parade from the 80's.I know the watchmen timeline is a alternate but does that change the decade in which musicians made their music? Present day for the watchmen is '85 so why are they playing "all along the watchtower" when they're cruising to antarctica? Was that a personal choice by the owl? where they jamming to jimi? these questions pop into my head of their own provocation, which takes me out of the movie, which happened alot in this movie, comma, comma, comma, comma, karma chameleon...

i can see how somebody who hadnt read the novel may not totally understand what the hell is going on. but if you are a fan and read the graphic novel, you should be happy with what zack and company brought to the screen. as close to comic as you have ever seen before. i personally thought it was awesome. and i didnt have the slightest problem with goodes performance. i thought all of the actors in it were great and did there part well.

as for the male nudity, well if youd read the novel, again it wouldnt have been a big deal. cuz you would have been expecting it. dr. manhattan definately could of conjured up a loincloth. but that wouldnt be him. he is sooo badass, he no longer gives a f$ck about petty things like clothes!!! and nobody is gonna dare tell him to pants up.

rorschach was the man like was expected

but if you havent already, again i suggest reading the novel beforehand. latro

Well,I'm sorry folks, but I'm gonna say it, I for one thought it was piss poor.Having read the comic several times over the years I had high expectations but am bitterly dissapointed.

Yes,it looked amazing and there were some wonderful set pieces but overall I think it was a disaster. The actors, apart from Jackie Earle Haley were wooden, and the dialogue was at times painful to listen to and as for chemistry between characters, forget it.

I thought I was going to be in the minority, but,as I left a cinema packed with fan boys the majority of the conversations I was overhearing were very negative, for example, "well f*#k me,that was shite" or "wow, there's gonna be a lot of pissed off people leaving here tonight" or "man,I'm gutted".

My local rag only gave it a one star review which I had dismissed out of hand, instead favouring Empire Magazine's 4 Stars, but alas,Empire if I remember correctly don't rate movies in a 4 stars = brilliant kind of way, they're more of a 4 stars = must see, which, quite obviously is not the same thing.

Overall,an overlong and tired adaptation which makes me think They were right all along,Watchmen is one of those books that just can't be made into a movie.

Bring on the backlash.

The Watchmen was garbage. I tried to ignore the bad reviews and thought to truly love this movie you've had to read the graphic novel, which I have and love it. But watching this movie is almost like reading the novel but they left the major points in but took out the small stuff that lead up to the major points making sense. So essentially you're just getting a whole bunch of scenes taken out of context and would make no sense if you haven't read The Watchmen. *Spoiler* Also, the changed ending didn't: kinda iffy. The squid in the novel was supposed to unite the world over the possibility of aliens but to me nuking every major city kinda outdid itself and the ending as whole truly didn't capture Veidt's true purpose. Acting was shotty, except for whoever played Rorshach. Snyder prostituted Alan Moore's masterpiece, if I saw the movie w/o ever reading it I wouldn't want to and its a shame that others may feel the same way who haven't read it.

As a whole, I have mixed feelings about this movie. It was good, but I don't felt it lived up to the hype(seldom things ever do). With that said, all that's left is that Jackie Earle Haley should be polishing a spot on his awards mantle. There. I friggin' said it. Whatcha gonna do about it?!
