EDITORIAL: Why AGENT CARTER Will Be Better Than AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

With the premiere of Agent Carter at hand starring Hayley Atwell, I'm here to bring out some points on why this new adventure to the Marvel Universe will be an improvement over the on-break show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Check out my thoughts after the jump!

Don't let the teaser fool you. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D is an awesome show. It's one of my favorite shows this year (and quite possibly all-time), and I can't wait to see what they'll do with the series.

Now, let's jump back 73 years to the events of the soon-to-air spinoff show Agent Carter, starring Hayley Atwell, who will reprise her role as Peggy Carter from Captain America: The First Avenger. I'm going to point out some reasons why Carter will be better than S.H.I.E.L.D. Scroll down to have a read!

1. It's A Period Piece. A lot of fans didn't care for Captain America: The First Avenger. Why ? Everyone has their reasons, but I liked the film. One of the reasons why I did was because it was set back in the war. I love movies and games set back in time, especially back in WW2. While Captain America focused on the war, the heroes, the fights, etc. However, Agent Carter seems to be steering away from that, going into the “Scarface” realm of things, focusing on gangsters, Noir, and giving more of a darker spin on the world.

2. The Characters. In Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., They started out with Agent Coulson as the only recognizable character to the series, then built their way up by adding cameos from Fury, Maria Hill and more. With Agent Carter, we're getting fan-favorite characters all throughout the series that we've already seen such as Howard Stark, Jarvis, and of course the titular hero that they can build on even more.

3. The Origins Of HYDRA. In Captain America: The First Avenger, we didn't get much of a background for HYDRA, yet they've been one of the biggest impacts to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With a rumored “huge” villain coming to the show (Arnim Zola, Baron Zemo?) hopefully we'll get some history for the biggest group of Marvel baddies.

So, those are my thoughts. What do you think? Will Agent Carter win? Or will S.H.I.E.L.D. come out as a better show? Be sure to leave your thoughts below, and don't miss the premiere of Agent Carter on January 6 at 9/8c on ABC!

What about no filler episodes, sense it's going to be on for just 8 weeks. I love AOS too, just wish like all comicbook tv shows that it had less filler.

@StaticShock86 That is a very good point, but season 2 has cut down a LOT on filler episodes, and I'm mostly comparing this to season 2.

Yup I agree with the guys above: having only 8 or 9 episodes will be a HUGE factor in cutting down filler episodes and making this better than the 1st season of Agents of SHIELD. It forces the writers to quickly introduce the characters (it helps that we have a few familiar faces already), set up the overarching plot, and just jump right into it. There's simply no time for wheel-spinning or filler.

I can't wait for this show.

This would be a great opportunity to showcase the 1950's psychotic Captain America. It could start out as a major threat or event causes the Hydra division of SHIELD to fake the return of Captain America with everyone taken by shock, including Peggy. And once her, Dum Dum and Howard begin to realize it's not the real Cap, they go on a mission to expose the truth.

@EzioKenway1225 Yep! I finally caught up 2 nights ago, and I loved season 2 so much that I'm writing an editorial about it right now haha. I gave up on the show pretty early on, but I'm so glad I came back and caught up.

@GliderMan Haha working on it! It should be up within a week or so, depending on a couple things. Keep an eye out for it though!

Dude, you can't call it a "period" piece just because the lead is a woman. That's sexist.
