Charlie Cox Describes How He Actually Blinded Himself In Order To Portray DAREDEVIL

While realistically portraying a blind person is challenging, actor Charlie Cox wanted to do right by the character of Daredevil, and has now described how he actually blinded himself for the role...

Method acting has always been a unique element in the making of movies; Jared Leto's notorious antics on the set of David Ayer's Suicide Squad are just one recent example of how crazy things can get when an actor fully immerses himself in a character. For Charlie Cox, who plays the eponymous hero on Netflix and Marvel's Daredevil, experiencing the physical blindness of The Man Without Fear was a necessary part of the role.

In an interview with ScreenGeek at Wizard World in Pittsburgh last weekend, Cox described how he blinded himself in the first season of the show. “I don’t know if you know this [or not] but on the first season, I was trying to figure out how to do it. I went to this specialist, an opticianist – and I had these lenses made that were identical to my eyes but they completely blinded me. You put them in and I couldn’t see a thing and I thought great, I’ll do that and I don’t have to do any acting. The problem with that was that after every take, someone from the crew had to come and get me and lead me away and kind of sit me down. After the second day, I was like this is going to get really old, really quick.”

Cox also revealed that he's still campaigning for the character of Bullseye to appear on the show, something that gets him in hot water with his co-stars. “It’s no secret, I’ve said it before and I get in trouble every time I say it, I’d like to see Bullseye make an appearance at some point. I think it’s a really interesting opportunity. Deborah Ann Woll obviously does not want Bullseye to show up for obvious reasons. Elodie Yung, who plays Elektra, doesn’t want Bullseye to show up either.”

@auditore - Lol. Funny thing is, it's kinda both. Sure, you don't have to PRETEND, but you have to try and be more aware of your surroundings, where voices are coming from, etc etc.

I find it impossible not to like Charlie. He's so down to earth and humble that it makes him an even better fit for Matt's role.

@BillCipher999 - Just went back and read his run in Punisher MAX. Definite must read to see how insane and great Bullseye is as a villain. Especially for the Punisher.

Ironically, Matt Murdock fakes his blindness to some degree to not let people on to his enhanced abilities, so Charlie Cox is pretending to be pretending to be blind.
