Netflix announced the premiere date for the third season of Marvel's Daredevil yesterday, and now EW has debuted two official stills.

The first features The Man Without Fear donning his original black costume as he watches over the streets of Hell's Kitchen, and the second sees Matt Murdock meeting up with his old friend Foggy Nelson, who is probably more than a little surprised to see him after the events of The Defenders.

“Foggy has been trying to move on from Matt’s memory, or at least move on with his life,” says new showrunner Erik Oleson. “If you thought one of your close friends was dead and he decided not to tell you he survived, you would probably have some issues with that.”

Oleson also offers a few hints about the story season 3 will follow by giving us more of an insight into Murdock's fractured psyche as he struggles to deal with a crisis of faith and the fact that his heightened senses are failing.

“Matt starts the season broken physically, broken emotionally, and broken spiritually. He’s angry at God, he’s angry at the fact that he had risked his life to do God’s work, and he’s questioning whether or not he was a fool.

Matt goes to pretty much the darkest place you can when he realizes that he’s incapable of being Daredevil, he would rather just end it than go forward in his life without abilities. He’s decided to set aside his Matt Murdock persona and just be the Devil, to isolate the lighter part of himself.”

Matt's life will be further complicated by the return of a "smarter, more calculated, and more manipulative" Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio), who will be hatching a new plan to reclaim his criminal empire.

Fore more, head on over to EW. Daredevil returns on October 19th.

I have a feeling he'll be getting a new suit this season. With the DD logo.

@L0RDbuckethead - is that official concept art? I would personally prefer a bigger logo, but a subtle one, like it's outlines just raise out of the suit.

That description is not really selling me. But I'm a huge DD fan and this show has been great, so I will trust the powers in charge.
ENTERTAIN ME!!!

Can't wait to see how they adapt Born Again

I'm almost kind of scared of this season being too good. The hurt I felt with the proceeding shows and follow up seasons were really heartbreaking due to the raised bar from DD s1. I can only hope these shows get bigger and more ambitious if DD s3 is as good as some are making it out to be.

When he wakes up in Daredevil season 3, his heightened senses are failing, Elektra’s gone, and he’s presumed dead.

Matt goes to pretty much the darkest place you can,” Oleson says. “When he realizes that he’s incapable of being Daredevil, he would rather just end it than go forward in his life without abilities. He’s decided to set aside his Matt Murdock persona and just be the Devil, to isolate the lighter part of himself.”

This sounds interesting and they're going in a route I didn't see coming. His powers are failing him but he cant live in or accept a world where he's "actually blind."

@BlackBeltJones - I absolutely HATE the fact his heightened senses are failing!!
Why is that always the go-to in these shows??

@narrow290 - well they toyed with the idea in season 2. The comics have done this as well.

Considering the noise that comes from a building collapsing, its natural to have Matt's powers be faulty after that. Extremely loud noise do negatively affect his powers. Not to mention, the severe physical injuries he experienced would affect him too. He does take a beating and the show is pretty relaistic, for a superhero show, in terms of not having him heal from everything after one episode.

It is Born Again, a story where he's at his weakest point, having to rebuild himself anew.

@narrow290 - im not a big fan of it too but I accept it when its a product of story in a natural and genuine way.

“I came in with a pitch that took pieces of some of my favorite comic book runs, that told a larger story, and I was expecting to get more pushback, but Marvel was incredibly excited about the storyline,” Oleson explains.

"They let me tell the story I wanted to tell.… I wasn’t sure, given the events of Defenders, how much freedom I would have, and I ended up getting complete freedom.”

@BlackBeltJones - sounds almost as if they never planned to follow up defenders, then. Ah well. At least it leaves for better solo seasons.

@ftf530 - im all for that, ignoring Defenders.

@BlackBeltJones - that’s a shame. Makes me think we really won’t get more defenders which I wanted. It wasn’t perfect but it’s in my top 3 of all the shows and thought it had a lot of potential going forward
GhostDog
GhostDog - 9/21/2018, 3:50 PM
@Ha1frican - I dont think it was ever meant to get a season 2. I still think we will get more crossovers between the shows.

Maybe one day. A season 2 will come.
Ha1frican
Ha1frican - 9/21/2018, 9:15 PM
@BlackBeltJones - I wish they would so far they’ve really dropped the ball on crossovers. Danny in LC season 2 was great but no one else in JJ S2 and IF S2 just seemed idiotic to me. It’s the same issue that phase 2 of the MCU specifically Iron Man 3 had where almost everything would be solved if they made one call to the rest of the team and they never justified why that didn’t happen
