Has Marvel Just Confirmed That Jon Bernthal's Punisher Will Star In THE DEFENDERS?

There's been speculation for a while that Jon Bernthal would return as Frank Castle/The Punisher in The Defenders and that may have now been inadvertently confirmed by Marvel. Find the details right here!

The cast of The Defenders is massive as Marvel has added just about every supporting character from Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist over the past year or so. However, one name not confirmed for the series is Jon Bernthal as The Punisher but Bleeding Cool believes he may have now been added to the cast of the highly anticipated Netflix series which premieres this coming August. 

That's down to a cast list they've been sent featuring the names who will be in attendance for The Defenders panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con next Friday. Listed are Mike Colter, Finn Jones, Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Elodie Yung, Deborah Ann Woll, Jessica Henwick, Marco Ramirez, Jon Bernthal and Jeph Loeb. So, does this confirm that Frank Castle will make his presence felt here?

It could just be that he's there to reveal new details about The Punisher, especially as that too is set to premiere in 2017. It's strange, though, that no other cast members will be joining him but that could be put down to the actor showing off a trailer here and then the show getting a proper push at the New York Comic-Con in the fall. We'll have to wait and see but Frank helping out the team seems likely!

I hope he has a big role. Daredevil is incredible, Jessica Jones is okay but Luke Cage and Iron Fist are crap. Gott have some Punisher to make it interesting. To be honest I'm only really interested in it for more Daredevil anyway.

@connorblaze - I gotta say, when I went into Luke Cage, I was expecting to give not more than half a turd about it. However, I really loved it and place it right behind Daredevil. I felt it was the closest thing Marvel has ever had to a character that reminded me of Rocky Balboa in terms of heart and spirit. In fact, my only two complaints about Luke Cage were that they killed off Cottonmouth(who was f**king amazing and complex in that role) and how utterly silly Diamondback looked in that power suit thingy. I have yet to get through Jessica Jones though, having watched two episodes that felt rather arduous.

@Parker00 - jessica jones is worth watching for Tennant's role, but it is slow. Although all the netflix series are, really. I feel they should all be 8 episodes. They tend to run out of steam half way, then rapidly change lanes rather than telling one strong story. Luke Cage did this more than any of them, except maybe Daredevil S2, in that the back half of episodes feel like a seperate season and story. I actually like the stretch with Cottonmouth but I though Diamondback was attrociously acted. But my main problem with the show was Mike Colter. I like the character of Luke Cage but I found Colter to be incredibly uncharismatic and uninteresting to watch. Plus there was the fact that his character was constantly complaining about how he just wanted to be a normal guy. That's always boring. Oh, I'm completely impervious to harm, and incredibly strong. Doesn't that suck, poor me...

@Parker00 - right? Very wierd. Especially since the first half is so serious and crime drama-y, it's odd that it ends up with a drama-free power rangers camp vibe. Although I will say that one thing I loved about it was the music. Which shocked me because I was expecting hip hop, which I hate. But if I remember correctly it was more soul and bluesy vibes?

@connorblaze - Yes but there was a rap tune here and there. Matter of fact, Luke Cage gave me the first rap song I've truly liked in over a decade; Jidenna's "Long live the chief". I'm with you in general about rap though. I liked Run DMC very much as a kid. You know, when rap actually kind of discussed shit that mattered.

@Parker00 - The only rap or hip hop I can remember liking are Gangsta's Paradise, Bust A Move. Run DMC too, with ya there. I don't even like Tupac, sounds like the rest to me. Definately a blues and soul guy. Howlin' Wolf would eat any of these so called tough guy rappers for breakfast. Now that was music. Smokestack Lightnin, baby.

Is The Punisher still dropping in November? Has that been confirmed yet?! Damn it, I've read up on all Punisher comics in preparation(aside from The Punisher & Eminem, is that even worth my time?). Tell me it's dropping in November!!!

I hope he has some role in the defenders. Maybe not as large as the big 4, but if he could show up in 2/3 episodes i would be very excited. He was my favorite part of DD S2. Need more DD and Punisher interactions.

It would be cool if they're preparing for action, odds are against them... and Matt says something like "I know someone".

When they're overwhelmed... BANG! Castle comes killing everyone. Well, merciless killing is the price for calling up this guy.
