ECHO Co-Writer Is Enthusiastic About The Possibility Of A Second Season - SPOILERS

We know Echo lays the groundwork for Daredevil: Born Again, but co-writer Amy Rardin seems enthusiastic about the possibility of Maya Lopez's story continuing in a second season...

Following Maya Lopez's debut in Hawkeye, Echo continued the former assassin's story while also laying the groundwork for Daredevil: Born Again - but not for the main character.

Spoilers for the season finale ahead.

In the fifth and final episode, Echo decides to stay with her family and in Tamaha and start a new life after using her inherited Choctaw abilities to "heal" Wilson Fisk and (seemingly) rid of at least some of the anger and hatred he's been carrying around most of his life.

The post-credits scene pretty much confirms that the Kingpin will run for mayor back in NYC, setting up his conflict with the Man Without Fear in Born Again, but where does that leave Maya?

The show has been a pretty big hit with viewers, and we recently learned that it scored the most-watched series premiere on both Disney+ and Hulu. Though nothing has been officially announced, co-writer Amy Rardid feels this bodes well for a second season.

"I feel like if we're lucky enough to have a season 2, I think I could watch the Maya-Kingpin show all day," she tells Screen Rant. "I think that story? She's not done with him, and he's not done with her, so I think there are unlimited storytelling possibilities there. I feel like what's interesting about these two characters is that they both know each other so well. And I think that Maya's power over Fisk is that she knows that he loves her, and that's a lot of power, and she knows him probably better than a lot of people, and vice versa. And so, I think to have these two emotional chess players manipulate each other could be really interesting."

There's a chance Echo will make an appearance in Born Again, of course, but with everything going on in that show, it seems unlikely.

All five episodes of Echo are now streaming on Disney+.

Echo is the first project under a new banner known as Marvel Spotlight, which takes its name from an anthology comic book series that debuted back in 1971 and was the origin of beloved Marvel characters like Ghost Rider and Spider-Woman.

“Marvel Spotlight gives us a platform to bring more grounded, character-driven stories to the screen, and in the case of Echo, focusing on street-level stakes over larger MCU continuity," said Head of Streaming Brad Winderbaum. "Just like comics fans didn’t need to read Avengers or Fantastic Four to enjoy a Ghost Rider Spotlight comic, our audience doesn’t need to have seen other Marvel series to understand what’s happening in Maya’s story.”

"Marvel Studios presents Echo in which Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) struggles to reconnect with her Native American roots while balancing aspirations tied to a life of crime as successor to the brutal legacy of Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) aka Kingpin," reads the most recent synopsis. "In the first episode, we are introduced to Maya Lopez and her struggles."

In addition to Cox, D'Onofrio and Cox (Charlie), the show will also star Chaske Spencer as Henry, Tantoo Cardinal as Chula, Graham Greene as Skully, Cody Lightning as Cousin Biscuits, Devery Jacobs as Bonnie, and Zahn McClarnon as William Lopez.

The origin story of Echo revisits Maya Lopez (Cox), whose ruthless behaviour in New York City catches up with her in her hometown. She must face her past, reconnect with her Native American roots and embrace the meaning of family and community if she ever hopes to move forward.

Please don’t. The show was… not terrible, but nowhere near as good as it could have been. I’m fine with the character showing up again in the future, in a supporting role, but I don’t need an Echo Season 2, thankyaverymuch.

@santoanderson - this is more or less my sentiment. I look forward to her returning in the role but the show didn't feel like it left any stones unturned or dangled any plot threads in need of being tied or followed up.

@santoanderson - I'll take that over Secret Invasion's full tilt meaninglessness.

Nah we're good thank you.

I enjoyed the character and the series well enough. Just was too short for me. I’d watch a second season at a larger episode order.

"we recently learned that it scored the most-watched series premiere on both Disney+ and Hulu."

...how?

@TheFinestSmack - probably by the last episode it was the least-watched finale on both Disney+ and Hulu.

@TheFinestSmack - ...by being the only new show on those two streaming services on the week the series launched all its episodes at once.

You need to use shill logic. Whatever they can twist to give themselves a w. Seriously had a guy argue the marvels wasn't a failure because the reviews were good

Oh, and he used rotten tomatoes as a source 🤣

Slotherin - 1/14/2024, 8:58 PM
@TheFinestSmack - probably because there are people outside of the echo chambers here who would be willing to give it a chance.

It also opens up with enough intrigue to get a general audience to be interested without any familiarity to source.

@Origame - it is shill logic. The wording it scored the most-watched series premiere on both Disney+ and Hulu." makes it sound like it had the biggest viewership premiere ever. And I highly doubt it did. It beat Loki? It beat Mando? Doubtful.

Meh. Doesn't need one.

Yes, let's get a second season of this show starring a plank of wood in a series Marvel had to do massive reshoots and cut the episode count due to being "unwatchable" (feiges word, not mine), and they had to use footage from the Netflix shows and hawkeye to get people to care about it.
dagenspear
dagenspear - 1/14/2024, 9:57 PM
@Origame - Is a character being serious and angsty a plank of wood? Or has that just become a cheap catch all term used for vague reasons?

Where did Feige say that? And what does his opinion matter? I think we all know his creativity doesn't play with a full deck?
Origame
Origame - 1/14/2024, 10:14 PM
@dagenspear - she literally has that serious angsty scoul the entire series. You can paint a smiley face on a plank of wood. Doesn't change the fact it's a plank of wood with no emotions.

And he said it in the link below. And it kinda matters if the guy who greenlit she hulk and the marvels says something is unwatchable and requires massive reshoots to fix.

@Origame - I actually cannot believe I fell for your trick of saying ‘Feige said it in this article’ 😂
Origame
Origame - 1/15/2024, 8:18 AM
@CerealKiller1 - today I learned evidence is a trick 🤣
CerealKiller1
CerealKiller1 - 1/15/2024, 8:25 AM
@Origame - You said ‘Feige said it in this article’. Your ‘evidence’ was some other guy on the internet saying ‘I heard apparently Feige said this’. Clearly you don’t even know what evidence means 😂
CerealKiller1
CerealKiller1 - 1/15/2024, 8:26 AM
@Origame - But please, cannot wait sit to see the absolute backwards logic you use to try and say that this was somehow still ‘feiges own words’
Origame
Origame - 1/15/2024, 8:29 AM
@CerealKiller1 - ...it's called insider information dude. You really expect feige to personally call one of his products unreleasable when he's trying to sell it?

Your standard for proof is ridiculous 🤣
CerealKiller1
CerealKiller1 - 1/15/2024, 8:31 AM
@Origame - So you just believe everything you hear on the internet. I guess you already proved that the other day, but cool. Most people expect literal proof not hearsay, but hey, whatever works for you, absolutely no chance that the guy quoted in the article could’ve gotten something wrong
Origame
Origame - 1/15/2024, 8:33 AM
@CerealKiller1 - again, do you really expect feige to just make a press release and say this about a movie or show he's trying to sell?
CerealKiller1
CerealKiller1 - 1/15/2024, 8:39 AM
@Origame - You’re completely missing the point. Why do you just blindly believe this guy saying this? He said he ‘heard’ this. So how many people did this info go through? Do you honestly, genuinely just not understand the concept of misinformation? You think every single ‘industry insider’ is right 100% of the time? You cannot be that naive surely?
Origame
Origame - 1/15/2024, 9:08 AM
@CerealKiller1 - do you genuinely honestly not understand this production went through massive reshoots and multiple delays? That doesn't just happen. Quite frankly this just proves what obviously happened.
CerealKiller1
CerealKiller1 - 1/15/2024, 9:20 AM
@Origame - 🤦🏾‍♂️
Origame
Origame - 1/15/2024, 9:32 AM
@CerealKiller1 - yes, your logic is face palm worthy.
