The Falcon and The Winter Soldier followed Sam Wilson's transformation into the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new Captain America, with the hero forced to deal with the expectations that come with wielding the shield in Steve Rogers' absence. The series took us on quite a journey and ended by driving home what it meant for a Black man in today's America to wear the stars and stripes.

It was a powerful turn for this character, which the majority of fans have embraced. Captain America 4 is officially in the works at Marvel Studios, and it's there we expect to see Sam's journey continue.

Talking on the red carpet of the recent CMT Music Awards (via ComicBook.com), Mackie said that getting the call to inform him of his star-spangled future was a "mind-blowing" experience, and one that had a huge impact on his personal life. "As a Dad of boys," Mackie continued, "it's really cool when your kids can see you do something that they can watch."

"We do all these movies, most of them our kids can't watch. But my kids were actually able to sit down and eat popcorn and watch The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, or Avengers, or all those movies," he added. "At this point, everything I do is for my little boys, so that's the fun part."

We've only started to scratch the surface of what it means for Sam Wilson to be Captain America, and that upcoming movie obviously promises to reveal more about his new role in this world.

The next Captain America film doesn't have a release date as of yet, but The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Head Writer Malcolm Spellman is hard at work on the screenplay alongside staff writer Dalan Musson. No plot or casting details have been revealed, but Sebastian Stan is expected to reprise the role of Bucky Barnes.

What are your hopes for Captain America 4

lets get this moving. this seems like it will be so far away before we get anything new about it. it was announced and now its just crickets. hell they probably could do a second season of his show before the cap 4 even gets a teaser trailer.

@supermanrex - Yeah, Phase 4 is full of new characters and sequels, but nothing really pushing this guy forward. You would think Captain America would be important, but its really looking like he isn't going to show back up anytime soon.

Making a black man Captain America in a BLM movement era could’ve made such an impact but Disney literally just made him go “No fighting, No fighting” and called it a day.

@aurorsand146 - why try to turn this into something it didn’t have to be? You could’ve always said “New Cap movie, COOL”.

@WruceBayne - No one tried to turn this into something that Disney didn’t want it to be. Race was always a major theme in FaWS, not just for Sam but also for Isiah Bradley. They did an exceptional job right up until the finale when it ended by Sam giving the senators a “stern talk”.

@aurorsand146 - Yeah, he's a Cap that doesn't want to step on toes. Navigating a world in which your one mistake as a black person, or in this case, superhero, could be the one thing that defines you for the rest of your life. I don't agree with kumbaya Captain America, but I get it.

@comicfan100 - No I completely agree. Sam as Captain America prob can’t get away with what Steve Roger’s Captain America can. I think Disney/ MCU did a tremendous job portraying racial themes when it comes to being a black superhero in America but my only issue is how they handled the finale with not just with Sam and the senators, like you said “Kumbaya Captain America” but also with Karli. I think one more episode delving deeper into it wouldn’t have hurt.

Glad for Mackey, he made Falcon an interesting character I never thought was that cool. I think it’ll be cool to see what he brings in a movie as Cap. Let’s just hope we get more Bucky and Sam conversations and arguments.

I'm kind of weird about legacy characters. Unless they are long time sidekicks or partners, they just don't do it for me. I'm all in on this torch pass, although they have fumbled it a little.

@inkniron - Definitely agree with you. I absolutely feel if Sam had not been snapped, he would have been there to take the journey into the events of Endgame with the core Avengers, thus making the transition into being handed the shield a bit smoother.

@inkniron - Falcon is about as long term a partner as Cap could have had in the movies though. Obviously there's Bucky, but they were separated for so long, and Falcon was definitely the closer sidekick ever since the Winter Soldier movie.

I like Mackie's Falcon / Caps character. He's a very honest and good man overall. The race thing complements the character and doesn't overshadows every line he says so far.

But the story in FaTWS got kinda lost at times, they need to correct that - still a fan of him and Bucky.

BTW Bucky was a highlight. I want to see how he interacts with newer characters given he's kind of tired of everything by now.

@Fogs - they really bit off more than they can chew. They picked some really great themes and arcs to explore but most got lost because the series really just wasn't long enough. Plus keeping the costume reveal to the last episode really has to stop

@MyCoolYoung - Totally. I understand it's the coronation of the character being transformed but it's very formulaic indeed.

The whole Madripoor/Zemo part could've been saved for S2 IMO.

Ya know, I like that the MCU is branded as 'kiddie' movies in a way... I too would like to sit down with my kids one day and watch these with them.
The alternative for the MCU bashers out there is that one day they have to sit down with their kids and explain in the snyderverse why Batman has a rape scene in prison.

CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 4/12/2022, 1:24 PM
@TheRationalNerd - It didn't happen in a movie lol. But Snyder made that comment as an idea he had for his Snyderverse version of Batman going to prison and getting raped.

Which I find hysterical because Bruce Wayne would destroy anyone that tried to mess with him in prison.

@JonC - what’s crazy is that the “Snydercult” is full of guys like you. You don’t like Snyder or his movies but you have an uncanny talent for shoehorning him into EVERY post. Hilarious

@bs77 - I actually loved Man of Steel and even his story treatment for Wonder Woman (2017). BvS Ultimate cut was underwhelming for some of its issues but still a great entertaining film. JL Snyder Cut was good too (minus the forced Joker scenes

Mackie is perfect to take up the shield. But we have to get him back out there. What sets Sam's Cap separate from Steve's is that Sam has no powers. It is more of a struggle physically for Sam, which, in turn, makes his wins mean a little more. Captain America is a regular guy who wants to do the right thing by everyone. Sam is perfect in that respect. Just get him a better suit. He needs something more scaled down and not so patronizing.

Just get rid of his headwrap and goggles. They work on page, but not on screen. I didn't enjoy the shoulder pads on the suit and it looking two sizes too big, either.

@sully - I think it'd look better in a movie. Wanda's Scarlet Witch costume in MoM looks like an improvement over her costume in WandaVision.

Both Sam and Steve are Avengers. Both are heroes that have saved many many lives and made the world a better safer place to live. Both work together as long time partners and friends. Both were unique and powerful using their own skill sets. Why is Captain America considered greater than The Falcon? Why would Sam need to change his identity and take another person's nickname? Why would anyone take the Captain America nickname besides Steve?

It's a show about whether a black man can be accepted with a name that came from a white dude according to the show description basically. So the biggest entertainment corporation in the history of the world hired a multi-millionaire and super famous movie star that played a hero in the some of the biggest most profitable movies ever to play a role about exploring if a famous black man would be accepted by the populace that in real life made him filthy rich by paying their own money to watch him perform on screen in multiple movies even outside the MCU.

Disney took a major Avenger from the movies and delegated him to a tv show and then decided to push other newer less popular and less known characters instead of him in their movies.

Personally I think the brutha low-charisma. But maybe that's Disney's lackluster push as they new cap!
