Sam Wilson decided to put his doubts aside and embrace his destiny by officially taking up the mantle of Captain America in the recent season finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, facing-off against some very powerful enemies without the aid of the super-soldier serum.
The Wakandan-made wings Bucky gave him certainly seem to be more powerful than his previous flight-suit, but moving forward, the new Cap is going to have to do his best to live up to Steve Rogers' legacy without the advantage of enhanced abilities.
The Disney+ show's head writer Malcolm Spellman was asked how he sees Sam's arc progressing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe during an interview, and said he anticipates the character's lack of super-powers factoring into his story.
"I believe that's going to be his conflict moving forward. It's appropriate," Spellman tells Everyone Loves a Good Story. "In the action genre, what made Die Hard a classic wasn't who Bruce Willis beat, it was what he went through to beat them. He's walking through glass with no shoes on, you know what I'm saying? That's what people can identify with: 'This motherfu*ker is just like me and taking on the bad guys.' What better hero than that to root for?"
If Spellman is going to taking charge of Sam's continuing adventures in the MCU, then he may have given us some insight into what he has in store for the new Sentinel of Liberty in Captain America 4 - although he's yet to actually confirm the recent trade report that he'll be writing the movie with fellow TFATWS scribe Dalan Musson!
